Mike T is very good at finding those diamonds in the rough. Perhaps he might want the challenge of drafting Joyner and turning her into a star. The potential is there, but she should have been a star by now.

She doesn’t have the star mentality. It’s not all Aston’s fault. Where did Atkins come from?

I think the Mystics could use a PG. I’ll take a stab at Harris at this point.

Can someone explain why Texas waited until they were down 25 to run a press? It seemed to fluster Baylor briefly and sparked a little run, though Baylor was just running the clock out at that point. Surely it was worth trying when it started getting out of hand in the 3rd quarter.

A timeout (or 2) in the third couldn't have hurt either.

Hard to run a press when you dont make shots or the ball doesn't stop.

Richard's is quietly so dang good. Their best passer/decision maker, takes smart shots, hits them, and defends the crap out of you. Has a pretty looking shot too. If she develops a consistent jumpshot she could be a really really good pro IMO. Sort of like a taller and longer Alysha Clark.

I think she might make a good PG at the next level.

I think Karen is resigned to her fate. Time to dust off the resume and update the LinkedIn profile.

Ball handling may need some work and her size at 6-1 may work against her as a PG but the overall skills are there.

I expect Didi to start at the point next year, at least at the beginning of the year. If she can hit her mid range jumpers like today she will be tough to stop.

I don’t think they’re conditioned enough to run the press for very long. They’re not Maryland.

I think she gets another year. Texas was bad before she took over and they've been a steady Sweet 16 type of program. They're likely a tournament team this year too. It's not quite the same as Holly at Tennessee since there isnt a big fan base and Aston did turn the program around.

Why would that work against her? That’s a plus. WNBA is a big girl’s league.

Her contract is expiring after this year, so the timing works. Texas expects to win in every sport, so the last couple years of mediocrity despite good recruiting will not sit well. It's pretty clear the program has stagnated and needs new blood. A 1-16 record against Baylor doesn't help at all.

Smaller quick guards might give her fits. Tougher to handle the ball against players like Jordin Canada when you're that tall and not a top notch ballhandler. Rarely see tall lanky PGs in the league.

If you want to see what a bad coach is really like, maybe they can try luring Stollings over from Texas Tech.

6’4 Bonner can guard all positions like Richards does at the college level. She’s probably an actual 6’0. I wouldn’t consider her lanky. She’s quick and nimble. She’d guard PG’s better than most of the current crop.... but we’ll see what happens.

I envisioned Gabby Williams as a PG at the WNBA level and it’s been happening at a part time level.

A team can play her like Jackie Young. They can draft her and have her play the 1 on offense, but the guard the 3 on defense. The team has to have an offensive minded PG though, like Vegas' Plum.

I think what Aston has done with Joyner Holmes may be the greatest case of coaching malpractice I've ever seen.
You won't catch me praising Aston's coaching, but a great deal of Holmes' issues have been self-inflicted. The suspension from the university in her sophomore year set her way back.

If I'm a guessing man, I say she's out. The fact that it's February 1 and her contract still hasn't been extended past this season screams hot seat to me. The AD might be waiting to see if something great happens this season ... or he may have already made up his mind.

Yeah, Laimbeer doesn’t like tiny PG’s. He won a championship using Katie Smith as a PG.

Some of it seems simple. How in all these years has Aston never bothered to inform Holmes that she is not a guard and needs to get on the block? She has never been more than about a 25% 3-point shooter yet she still takes a couple every game. It seems her entire game is taking contested jumpers and committing charges.

If anyone drafts Holmes in the first round I think they will be making a mistake. Also, BYers complained about how unproductive Liv was against Baylor. Holmes and Collier were just as bad.

Word is she has done so, but as you know, informing someone isn't coaching them.

I truly hope that UConn hasn't fallen so far that we take solace in how bad Texas is.

If Sue isn't back and healthy Seattle has no chance for a championship. Canada can't shoot and is a shoot first point guard. Her defense doesn't make up for her lack of not running a good offense. But she was allowed to do that at UCLA.
It will be hard to change her style at this stage of her career.
