It's moronic and stupid and is a complete freaking joke. It's exactly what you don't want to see out of your QB and it appears to be drilled into them as a part of the "play." Have you ever seen another football team in the history of football do this? No. And there's a reason for it.

Other teams use it.

Teams with a QB who is used to reading defenses, teams with a diverse offense. I mean, the play is used in the pros all the time. And it works.

The problem here is that Shirreffs needs to be helped to stay in the pocket and go through his reads.

No one else dips their head and puts their eyes in the turf for nearly as long as we try and run that play action call.

Tom Brady is someone who most would consider to take a long head fake. Watch this play and see how "long" his play fake is compared to ours

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to wide receiver Brandon Lloyd for 37-yard TD

Here's the play.... Thomas appears to have not gotten enough on his chip block.

Thomas whiffed, Shirreffs dropped too far and took too long to see the field, and you didn't need to get cute with play action there -- a basic play fake is all you need when you're running it down their throats. So, in a nutshell, everything was wrong.

No, it's horrendous. I knew what was coming as soon as he dropped back. It's also a great way to get your most important player hurt.

It's almost like he expected Maine to just rushing him

Strange after seeing it again. I just thought he lost sight of the play but the fake was poorly executed by the wide out and the quarterback. I saw it as a WTF moment.

The fake looks like that every time. It's a major issue

Brady actually does the same exact play as Shirreffs, nonchalantly goes back and sells it. The difference is, he doesn't have a bunch of defenders bearing down on him because the offense so far has shown no attack over the middle. Defenders disrespect the QB because they only see him take deep drops, then try to run with it.

The Maine QB was taking what they were giving all night.

So, it's a high risk play that requires everyone to execute perfectly or there is a high risk of it going awry. So, you would expect that the staff to know the players and know whether or not they have practiced this play perfectly.

Or they were pulling the play out their ass.

I'm not excusing the play call at all. The deep drop and drawn out fake were clearly by design.

With our multiple TE sets we better figure out how to pick up corner blitzes. That was partially on BS.
