That was a weird play but I thought he got hit by a guy coming from the right. Could be wrong and of course no replay on it.
After Bryant faked the hand off it was like he froze, maybe trying to hide ball for a second or 2 too long. Just strange.
He definitely tried to sell the play-action, which is fine, but the line was down blocking like it was a bootleg.
So, the mess up could very well have been on BS.
That said, Diaco can't put that on the kid in post game.
It has to be a coaching thing, and if not, I don't know how they're not knocking that delayed play action out of him at practice. it's terrible and leaves him vulnerable to the left side every single time.
It was a colossal screw up any way you look at it. But like I said, based on the way the line was blocking on the play, I think it was a mental lapse by BS.
Even if that play in paricular was a mental lapse, we still do the really weird hide and seek with the ball for 1+ second. it makes no sense at all.
No argument here on that point.
This is seriously the thing that bothers me the most. Forget Run-Run-Pass. Forget clock management. This horrendous idea of what play-action should look like is a cruel, cruel joke. Defensive coordinators are salivating every time they see it, I can guarantee that. Play action is a deep threat play. Your QB's eyes need to be up and towards the defense to read the play. So now you're saying our QB needs to pretend to hand off, keep his eyes down for over a second, feel the backside pressure, and then read a defense when his receivers are already out of their routes? It's despicable.
This has been the story for 3 years.
I actually forgot about that play in the offseason.
And then when I saw it tonight, I was like, "Oh yeah, Diaco has them doing that crazy dumb play over and over and over again and bad things always happen."
I call it the "Statue of Misery" play. That play call tonight was inexcusable, seeing as how we had gained solid-to-big yardage on the ground for about eight straight plays leading up to it.
Tyler Davis was clearly the target on the play ... he flopped and played possum. I can't argue with the call ... just poor execution. The only problem is I was focusing on Davis and I never saw how the ball was knocked loose.
I was watching Johnson make a very awkward pass fake. Perhaps he missed a block in doing so. Id love a replay of wth happened.Tyler Davis was clearly the target on the play ... he flopped and played possum. I can't argue with the call ... just poor execution. Has that play ever not ended up in disaster for us? It's amazing they still go to that well. This has been the story for 3 years.

That's what I mean when I say the play. Our QB always ends up like a statue with his back to the D as rushers are coming to blindside him.The play's fine. It's the weird random delayed action turn your back to your defender thing they have going on that's the issue. I have said this probably 100x over the last hour but it shows Verducci's incompetence. It's literally the worst way you can run play action

Here's the play.... Thomas missed his block.
