UConn up 3-1 after 2 with Ward on the mound. Got all 3 runs in the first inning. Fuller now hitting .424

Ward startintg to struggle now. Offense hasn't gotten on base in 9 straight at bats.

Oklahoma ties it at 3 after 3.

Ward settled down for a 1-2-3 4th but UConn still doesn't have a baserunner (except reaching on an error in the 4th) since Fuller doubled with no outs in the first.

2 out walk (Verdi), steal and single (Pavone) makes it 4-3 Huskies. Gametracker says he doubled, radio says he singled. Irrelevant as DeBellis walks to make it 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and Friel at the dish

Friel singles to center. Pavone comes around to score but the throw went to 3rd to cut down DeBellis to end the inning. Good 2 out rally to make it 5-3 though. Let's see if the pitching can hold it down

5-3 UConn. We must continue to score runs...I don't know how much longer Ward will hold up.

Beating Oklahoma would be a signature win. With Indiana disappointing and us choking twice in two winnable games at Mississippi State, our only solid win is over Xavier.

Error starts the inning and Ward sets down the next 3 in order. Ward bouncing back nicely.

They just mentioned on WHUS that Avery Point transfer Stanley Paul made this trip with the team so they think he should be able to play some time this weekend, probably as the starting RF or Dan Hurley.

Is Oklahoma ranked?

Yes. They are ranked #16 in one poll and #18 in another. They are not better than Miss State though, based on their results.

Of course, we should have beaten Mississippi State AT LEAST once on the road...if not both times. Our young team is starting to come together.

Oklahoma struggling mightily to put the ball in play today...they have 10 strikeouts so far.

8-3. Not quite as dominating as the Clemson game, but not far from it. We seem to lose to good teams 60% of the time, but when we beat them (Oklahoma, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, St. John's) we thrash them. Have to start winning close games...

this program has really come far quickly. its amazing that after last year and what went pro we still have the depth as a program to being where we are right now. can the errors be cleaned up and the record be a little better, yea sure. but this is very nice to see, hope the pups hang on.

8 - 7 first and third two outs. Hope we hold on , this would be a tough loss .

oberg has a uphill climb this year if he wants a era under 5 lol

what happened here? it was 2 out 1st and 3rd with a 1-1 count. game tracker is like stuck.

No idea what is happening.

Edit: We win, and I don't have to hear how I jinxed the team with my "we're blowing them out" post. Beat Illinois.

Nice to get this win. Lets get ( at least) 2 of next 3.

Ugly win but a win is a win. Would have been a heart breaker especially with the way the previous weekends have gone.

The view of this weekend from ESPN College Baseball

PK Park, Eugene, Ore., and Goss Stadium, Corvallis, Ore.
No. 10 Oregon (10-1); Oregon State (8-4); No. 18 Oklahoma (9-3); Connecticut (4-6); Illinois (4-5); West Virginia (6-6)

One of the best jamborees of the early-season slate, the northern BCS conference teams (UConn, Illinois and West Virginia) need to win here more than the other teams, as each has suffered some numbing one-run losses, and all are looking for RPI points. But it's the Ducks who come into this one as a bit of a surprise as the heavy favorite. George Horton's 2012 edition has shown a penchant for winning the close ones, going 6-0 in one-or-two run games, including all three versus Long Beach State last weekend. If Oregon leadoff hitter J.J. Altobelli starts to heat up again (he's hitting just .264 now), the Big Green won't have so many close calls. They'll take on Oklahoma and UConn on Saturday and Sunday for their toughest assignments. This is also Oregon State's best chance at getting back into the rankings discussion before Pac-12 play kicks in next week.

Key matchup: UConn's RPI matchups.
The Huskies have come up snake-eyes in games with Mississippi State, Purdue and College of Charleston so far. This could be their last chance at earning some top-quality nonconference wins to impress the NCAA selection committee. In other words, wins here versus Oklahoma, Oregon State and Oregon could be the difference between an at-large bid or needing to win the Big East tournament.

Very solid win,

Illinois is going to be a very weird game only because they are wildly inconsistent, one minute they are very good the next minute they allow 20 runs. hopefully we catch them on a bad day.
