Where's a nice, cozy, place to get a beer and sit by a fire in CT? Indoors preferably.

GW Tavern, Washington
Mayflower Inn Taproom, Washington
White Horse Pub, New Preston
Griswold Inn, Essex
Daniel Packer Inn, Mystic

I've been going to GW Tavern since it opened, great place.

I've been going to The White Horse since it was the Mabledale Pub. It's amazing what he did with that place. Beautiful restaurant in the winter and the summer and one of the most popular restaurants in the state. My only beef with the place is they cook their beef well done even when you ask for medium rare or rare.

Freakin’ love that place. I ordered take out from there when my wife and I Airbnb’d nearby and we wish we dined in! That fireplace is amazing and the whole vibe in there is my type of place.
Yeah, it's a great spot and my vibe too. I'm lucky enough to live close by. I get there 45 minutes before they open because the place fills up quick.

What part of Connecticut? The suggestions are all over the state. I'm sure you would prefer a place close to you.

The White Horse is a personal favorite. I am over this neck o the woods and we used to go to the Marbledale Pub back in the day also. Been to GW Tavern a few times also and really like it too. Dark, old, warm pub feel with great food.

The Gris in Essex. Hate to say it but Bidwell has gone downhill in recent years. Not in CT but the nicest fireplace is at Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield MA.

Used to love the Bidwell. We rented a house in Coventry senior year and went to the Bidwell frequently.
I lived in Coventry for 20 years. I used to love the Bidwell and their wings. But I haven’t been there in over six years and heard that it’s not what it used to be.

Craft Kitchen in the downtown Plantsville section of Southington, Has had 3-4 incarnations. Building is owned by Dean's Stove & Spa who renovated it over a decade ago. Dean put in gas fireplaces throughout the first floor. Good pub food & pizza. Owner stresses farm to table fare.

Great place but always seems to be packed. Used to stagger out of there quite often in the 80’s when it was Proud Mary’s (Hawley Manor.)

I got at least once a month and the wings are still outstanding.

Apps are solid, beer selection is good. Vibe is fantastic.

Other food not good. But just stick to the wings, beer and apps.

NEBCO in Branford (former Stony Creek)
Dockside Brewery on the Housatonic (Milford/Stratford)

Both have a big stone fireplace in the middle of the bar area.

Actually, I coach Travel Basketball so I was looking for a place to try after one of our games that are spread throughout the state. Some great recommendations on this list.

The North House in Avon! Half price whiskies on Wednesday and they have a ridiculous list. Owner is a UConn alumni too!
WHAT? I am 15 minutes from there and haven't been since it was the AOF Inn.
