No, I'm not calling for Tim Boyle to start the second half. But did anyone notice when the announcer said Boyle was unavailable for this game and Whitmer is their only quarterback? Sorry if this was mentioned in the game thread, but if Boyle is unavailable it would explain why we have only ran the ball tonight - to prevent an injury to Whitmer...

Yup especially after he got blindsided in first quarter...

@NHRJimFuller: ESPN reporting that QB Tim Boyle is unavailable. He is here but we won't get an answer on his status until after game

He is there, multiple people on twitter have said he's on the sideline. Now trying to figure out what the story is.

@ErikaWachter
.@rsupre09 Tim Boyle did travel with the team. We will have info on status in coming days.

@EdDaigneault

From yesterday. "@T_Boyle_14: Everything happens for a reason”

@EdDaigneault
Tim Boyle is here. That we know. We don't know exactly what is status is in terms of availability.
I admit, I had a bad feeling when I saw that tweet from Boyle... who knows what it is.

He must not have been following proper nutrition guidelines. Off with his head.

If he s there it's not a transfer, right? So injury or suspension. Damn

Why was he warming up before the game?

Why do I have this feeling that I'm going to wake up tomorrow with news that Boyle is either done for the season, suspended for X number of games, or transferring....

That's what I'm thinking. If I were to guess my guess would be mild strain of some leg muscle (quad, hamstring or groin) that could easily turn into a serious issue running in these conditions. It wouldn't surprise me if he would have played if it were dry out.

Disappointing at best, I hope someone is on the team at the end of the year.

If it is medical...they may be able to save his redshirt. I really don't ant to see him behind this disaster of an OL anyway!!

I think his playing against Boise St killed the possibility of a redshirt. I hope the deadline (which is by date, not games) is after 9/13 for this season but three games in is a bit long.

I'd rather redshirt him as well but if that is what we are planning, we'll need to find someone to backup Whitmer as he won't survive a full season behind this line.

Why would Boyle transfer and if he were transferring why would he fly to Tampa?

Plus why would he transfer when he would be the leading candidate for starting QB next season.

If Whitmer went down just direct snap it to DeLorenzo for the 2 yard gain/4 yard loss.

I think the number is 30% (maybe 25%). If it goes by date I think we should be ok. The season is 14 or 15 weeks long. 3/14 < 25%. I thought it went by number of games though.

If they play the rest of the season running 90% of the time to prevent needing to put Boyle in then there's a real chance at 1-11. Better off running the normal offense and then throwing a walk on in to operate the 90% run offense in the event of injury. At least maybe you steal a couple wins before losing Whitmer.

Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted to athletes who appear in fewer than 30% of team competitions (none after the midpoint of the season) then suffers a season-ending injury. Players granted such a waiver are treated for the purposes of eligibility as though they did not compete in that season.

If an injury sidelines him the rest of the way he should get a redshirt if I'm understanding that correctly. I doubt he has a season ending injury though based on Diaco's comments. Could always say he never fully recovered though.

The only time the 25% rule is in play is if the player has a season ending injury.

Otherwise appearing in 1 play eliminates the opportunity to redshirt.

I agree with this 100%. I only mentioned the transferring bit because we've had such terrible luck that it would only be fitting that our future starting QB that has a lot of potential would transfer for some obscure reason.
