Azzi on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list

How many make the final round? 5? I would say Azzi, Blakes, and Johnson are probably locks to get that far.

.-.
A little off-topic: the best thing, well two best things happen to Azzi.

First, she decided to come back this year; she didn’t look like she was ready for the W last year, both physically and mentally.

Second, she invited Geno to her podcast a few months ago. While catching strays from him, he was actually coaching her. He was telling her to take risks and play with instinct instead of being conservative; also, he was telling her to keep shooting after missing a bunch of shots. I think these advices are beneficial to her not only this year but also in the W. She looks different this year - more confident and taking more chances.

She knows her role on the team this year. Its her and Sarah when they need a bucket. Both are capable of scoring on anyone who is guarding her. Stopper defenders are hard to find. Citron, I thought defended Paige better than anyone last year. Our man on man defense has many stoppers this year, and that's why we will win it all!!!!!!1

My guess is Azzi, Blakes, Kneepkens, Flau and toss up between Scott and Latson. Probably Latson, upperclassman privilege
Latson deserves top 5. I'm not sure Flaujae does at this point. I'd put the last spot between her and Scott.

I think Blakes has the award locked up though. She's probably 2nd to Strong for POY honors right now.

Sad that so many of the skills Azzi excels in - defense, clutch shooting, assists, etc. are hard to measure, particularly when the huge leads they create mean she only plays about 28 minutes a game.
This year Azzi has been nothing short of spectacular. i don't follow other teams much so I can't say much about other players. But there are measurements for Azzi if voters take the effort. For example, looking at this 6 games, the best competition she has played against, which she played vs Ohio St, Mich, Iowa, SoCal, Notre Dame, and Tennessee here are some incredible stats combined:

True Shooting % 65%.

Usage Percent % 26%

Assist Percent % 25.5%

Turnover Pct % 8.3%

Offensive Rating 124

Defensive Rating 93

Win Share Per 40 .31

What this tells us is that her efficiency of shooting is off the charts for a guard but she when you combine that with her usage and assist %, this highlights that she is also both a high level creator and finisher for her undefeated team. This should debunk that she is just a shooter. Then add her assist% in combo with her low tov% this shows her decision-making with the ball even vs very good competition is tremendous.

Further her win shares per 40 vs top level competition is considered all-American level. Her Orating is considered tremendous above all-American while taking into account these numbers are only vs the best competition UCONN has played. Just think her ORtg number is just 2.3 pts away from her season avg. So it doesn’t matter much who defends her. And her Defensive numbers are considered very good. Anything below 100 is considered very good.

And by the way, vs these top teams, Azzi’s Usage% and assist% numbers are higher than Sarah’s. And I forgot to add in UCONN's SOS is number 10 at the moment. It will start to drop. I don't beleive overall anyone (guards) has better advanced numbers in combo at the moment. Her ORating with that 65% TS is nuts. Bottom-line is that Azzi is having a spectacular season.
