Ayanna to Kentucky !!!! (Merged)

How many years of eligibility does she have left?
It's complicated. Right now, based on 1st redshirt, she will be going into her 5th year to play 4. However, she had a 2nd RS year, so she may try to apply for a waiver, but there's a lot of talk about changing the rules, so who knows.

I could be wrong, but I believe just one (played in two seasons, missed two due to injury). I don't blame her for wanting to make it count. A bit surprised at Kentucky, though. I did think she'd end up a bit below the P4 level just to ensure significant playing time. Sorry to see her go, but fingers crossed she ends up in a system that works for her and she's able to make back some of the time she's lost to injury over the past several seasons.

Congrats to Ayanna, going to a top 20 SEC team. Under current rules, she should get a 2nd year due injuries.

Agree with other posters that KY/SEC could, however, be tough for playing time.

On the other hand she pairs up real well with Strack in the frontcourt. If she stays healthy and plays a lot, she could be an important 10 and 10 contributor for them.

There’s no telling what Kenny Brooks will make of Ayanna. But KY struck me as not strong enough in the frontcourt this year. And without Key and maybe Hassett next season, they’ll be a bit undersized. Whatever else Ayanna is, she plays bigger than her height, is really strong and moves really well. I can picture her freeing up Strack on offense and defense.

A little surprising to see Yanna go before Ice. I know they were both top 5 recruits but I would have thought Ice had a better body of work to go on. I wish Yanna all the best and hope she gets to finally show what she is capable of. She is going in with imo, an exceptional player in Greenway. Those two could really make some magic together if all goes well.

Depends what factors are important to each player. I assume everyone has different priorities when they're looking for a new school.

And, not to derail the thread, it also may depend on how long Ice's rehab will take, and what graduate studies she's interested in.

If she is interested in greater visibility for a post college career in basketball then Kentucky is probably OK.

If she is interested in more playing time then a mid-major would have been a better choice.

My understanding is that Ayana was very interested in attending a state university in a state whose name ends in a Y. So it was pretty much between Kentucky and New Jersey.

In that case the decision was easy.

I was disappointed to see Ayanna enter the transfer portal. I felt, finally be healthy, she could reach her full potential and be a mature and sgnificant addition to next years front court.

I wish her nothing but success in career at Kentucky.
I agree she is good enough when healthy, but she probably didn’t see a path to much PT behind Sarah, Olivia, and Jana.
