Averaging <10 turnovers per game and >2 A:TO

Thought this was an interesting stat but we're 30th in D1 for turnovers per game at 9.92. Charlotte leads the country at 8.70.

What's more remarkable is that our A:TO margin as a team exceeds 2, which is even better thus far than last year's team. Hass deserves a ton of credit, with his A:TO margin approaching 3 (2.95).

Also forgot how that 2022-2023 team really struggled with turnovers at times. Remember some games in the 15-20 range when things were rough that season.

Peeps need to start appreciating our guy Hass. We’re second in the nation in assist/TO just behind Auburn. This category highly correlates to success as most of the top teams here are in the top 25.

Here’s a wild UConn stat - we are currently the 346th ranked team in the country against guarding the 3, out of 354 teams, giving up an average 39.2% from 3. Can only go up from here……I hope. It’s almost hard to be that bad, especially when you’ve played 5 tomato cans. And get this, Baylor is even worse at 351/39.5%.

Tennessee, the number one ranked team, is second best at 24.4%. What are they doing that we can’t? How much is bad luck? At least the staff knows what it has to correct. I’d expect this to even out a bit in our favor.

The average is around 32.5%. So if our defense can get back down to the mean, that’s saved us around 4-6 points a game.

Every one always asks why Ross comes off the bench first. Well he is our best perimeter defender on the team. So he is best at what we as a team are worst at. That question has been answered. At least Ball appears to be improving maybe that helps.

Many of the stat nerd sites have "luck adjustment" settings that try to account for 3pt/2pt shooting that goes well above/below the team averages. Of course, it's not a perfect adjustment (as a team playing no perimeter defense will definitely promote higher 3pt% shooting vs. one who consistently limits wide-open looks).

But for the run of 7 games starting at the MTE against Top 80 KenPom teams, they are shooting 48.1%. Luck-Adjustment indicates those teams, on average, should have shot 39.4%

If you filter starting at our first post-MTE game (where the eye test showed we were starting to improve our D, those numbers are 44.6% and 38.3% luck-adjusted. At the same time, we've shot only 32.3% (luck adjustment = 35.1%)

Teams are just going off versus us. The fact that we are still stacking wins in the face of it is a testament to our team's offense and also our interior 2pt D.

Hard to quantify the emotional side of the sport, but you do wonder if that 5% extra juice against the 2x defending champion has something to do with it. One way might be to see if Memphis, Dayton, Colorado and Xavier had their season high % against us. Take for instance a 4-9 NDakota team that played Bama last night and shot 41.5% from three. How much did heightened sense for the competition play into that %.

Will be interesting to follow this stat because in games where teams haven’t shot lights out, we’ve looked in command. Should track what the end of year number is against where we are now, which will likely give us a better sense of the early luck factor we’ve been up against.

I think our late season and dominant tournament run really painted over our flaws (as few as there were) from earlier in the season.

We gotta stop looking for this year's guys to be last years guys.

Last night I started thinking about Taliek Brown. We never game him a break until his senior year then we started to appreciate him. Hass is even a much better shooter

Hass is making big plays and maximizing his talent. 11 assists and his assist to to ratio is top level. It’s tough to take him out of the game right now as our offense just stops. I think we will fix that with Liam and Hurley will find a rotation that can work for 4-5 minutes a half.

Putting Liam in more of a creator role and working Nowell into the rotation should help. Liam really did step into gold as far as opportunity as a freshman goes, not sure he could have landed into a better situation to showcase his skills.

We appreciate believe me. He defends, assists and with extended PT and max effort we need him on the floor. He does need a break though.
