We often forget that college is about turning kids into young women and men. They're all humans that just happen to play basketball. Everyone of us has been through travails in our lives, and these have forged and informed our future selves. Whenever we see someone in sports get injured we are reminded of this and how they deserve our sympathy because we've experienced something akin to it. But when I see someone in sport get injured my sympathy reaches different heights, because I have a real idea of how hard these athletes work to achieve even the smallest amount of proficiency, and it always breaks my heart. When Sabally went down against UConn my heart just broke. I know how hard this woman had worked to get back in the lineup, just to get injured again. Fortunately in her case it wasn't serious. For Audrey the road back will be laborious, painful and frustrating, but she will endure, in this as in life. We got your back Audrey.

im not crying youre crying GIF

I like your last sentence !!!!

When and who makes the decision to redshirt? Collaborative decision between coach and player?

I don't think she needs to red shirt because she never played this season. You get 5 years to play 4 seasons.

500 likes for this posting this video. It brought a tear to my eye. This is an awesome display of real raw emotion by a team for one of their injured teammates. I loved it. No doubt Aubrey was impressed also. :D If you can watch this video and not tear up even a little, turn in your UConn fan credentials now. Welcome back Aubrey. We missed you. As JordyG said.....we do have your back. ;)

Ultimately it's the player's decision but yes should be in consultation with coach.

She already has next year plus 1 additional covid year of eligibility. But she could petition for a redshirt for this year and be granted a 6th season. 6 years is a long time so I'd say it's less likely that happens.

2-3 hour bus trip, walking with a cane, supporting herself against a table for a few more hours, another 2-3 hour bus trip, all after just having back surgery. Don't get it. Even if she was not traveling with the team, still makes no sense.

From the reaction of her teammates upon seeing her, I’m guessing Aubrey has been resting at home post surgery. Ossining is 30 minutes from Queens.

I hope that she only came down from home, though that is about 40 miles of bad road.

ever done it after back surgery?
Point taken. I suspect Aubrey wanted to be with her teammates, and was willing to suffer a little discomfort for the opportunity.

Then again, I have heard many say that college was the best six years of their life.

My concern goes beyond discomfort. Still doesn't make sense, after all that she has been through. I always caution my patients to really lay low for the first few weeks. Ok, I'm not a doctor, but if I was....
