The impressive thing about that is that it reinforces the thoughts that she's a much higher recruit than her rankings. HG has her at 33. PN has her at 90. Not sure about Blue Star or ASGR.

However, she was one of the last 2 cut for the U17 Team USA. She's one of the top 24 named to the McD AA team. More than that, she's one of the top 10 named to the WBCA AA team. When you factor in what she's accomplishing now that she's healthy, it appears that she's a legit top 15 player in the class, and probably even a top 10 player. Congrats to Aubrey!!

Congrats to Aubrey for making the 10-player team.

I still don't understand Rickie Woltman being included. She is not the best player on her team. They play in the Missouri state semi-finals this Friday. The game will be on the NFHSA Network at 3:30 pm CT. See for yourself if you are interested. Some of these rankings are questionable.

The three UConn recruiting misses all on there, fwiw.

You win some, you lose some.

But let's see who's still an All-American their senior year of college...

And, because it's a slow day at work, I thought I'd look up the 2015 WBCA High School All-America Team and their subsequent WBCA honors or other interesting notes...

Kalani Brown (Baylor)
  • 2018 WBCA All-American
  • 2018 WBCA All-Region (3)
  • 2017 WBCA All-American
  • 2017 WBCA All-Region (3)
Napheesa Collier (Connecticut)
  • 2018 WBCA All-Region (3)
  • 2017 WBCA All-American
  • 2017 WBCA All-Region (3)

Te'a Cooper (Tennessee/South Carolina)

Was at Tennessee in 15/16 and 16/17, but sat out in 16/17 with a knee injury. Scored 8.6 ppg in 15/16 and was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team. Has started 25 of 27 games this year, currently averaging 11.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, and 2.4 apg at South Carolina.

Asia Durr (Louisville)
  • 2018 WBCA All-American
  • 2018 WBCA All-Region (1)
  • 2017 WBCA All-Region (1)
Lashann Higgs (Texas)

Went down in November with an ACL tear and only played four games 18/19 season. As a junior, averaged 12.8 ppg, 3 rpg, and 1.7 apg.

Jordan Hosey (Texas/???)

Left after her junior year at Texas, but has not committed with another team for her last year of eligibility. As a junior, averaged 3.5 ppg, 2.2 rpg, and .4 apg.

Kyra Lambert (Duke)

Tore her ACL in the first round of the 16/17 tournament and continued her recovery through the 17/18 season. Re-injured the same knee in November and sat out the entire 18/19 season. As a sophomore, she averaged 7.8 ppg, 3.5 apg, and 1.7 spg.

Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame)
  • 2018 WBCA All-American
  • 2018 WBCA All-Region (1)
  • 2017 WBCA All-Region (1)
Ali Patberg (Notre Dame/Indiana)

Tore her ACL before her freshman season at Notre Dame and, as a redshirt freshman, only averaged .8 ppg and .5 apg in 7.7 mpg. Left Notre Dame for Indiana and, after sitting out in 17/18, averaged 16 ppg, 4.7 apg, and 5 rpg in her redshirt sophomore season.

Katie Lou Samuelson (Connecticut)
  • 2018 WBCA All-American
  • 2018 WBCA All-Region (3)
  • 2017 WBCA All-American
  • 2017 WBCA All-Region (3)
I also think that it's important to note that Kristine Anigwe was the only freshman in 2016 to be on an All-America regional list, but didn't make the WBCA All-America team as a senior...

The moral of the story? Awards are nice but stuff happens.

ESPN posts Dan Olson's rankings (for Collegiate Girls Basketball Report) which are a snapshot as of the time of publication. Olson updates his rankings constantly.

Right now, Collegiate Girls Basketball Report has Aubrey Griffin ranked #22. While she may have been 33rd at the time that the rankings were published, she is ranked #22 as of March 11, 2019.

Blue Star ranks Griffin at #27.

Horrible that so many tremendous women athletes would succumb to the ACL tear. Horrible!

The Washington Post not long ago went back and tracked the ESPN Top 100 high school senior football players over the course of a decade and discovered 1) that many of their careers ended with serious knee or leg injuries, and 2) that only a tiny handful of the very best athletes in the country as high school kids ever made it to significant careers in the pros.
