i read a maggie story today and saw an assertion that the uconn women have been 'fully healthy for the first time in years.'

while the narrative is good, the facts are wrong. media should always get the facts right if the facts are known. in this case, they are.

the huskies have not been 'fully healthy' this season. in fact, morgan cheli has not played at all and ice brady has been injured and
unavailable after the first couple of games in november. of course, throughout the year, others have missed games because of lesser injuries.

those are facts the media is too lazy to put forth, preferring the EASIER narrative.

what's wrong with accuracy? anything else -- especially when the truth is plainly evident (though perhaps more difficult to put into words) -- undermines the credibility of the journalism.

i would have sent this message directly to maggie if her publication explained how. maybe some BYer knows and can pass it along.

Definitely true. We could sort of defend it by saying that the rotation Geno has settled on has mostly been healthy, but even this would be false. Blanquita missed a month and she is a key piece and is still shaking off the rust. Any steady observer would admit that the team’s tournament hopes depend on her being able to do so. And Morgan would likely have been a key piece too.

The best one can say is that we haven’t had to forfeit any games because of injuries. I exaggerate, of course. Perhaps what Maggie is trying to express is that the team is healthier than it’s been in recent years. It’s that recent history that draws the contrast and invites the error. After all, no one is marveling at how healthy UCLA is, or Texas, or LSU. This season, only SC has been bitten by the injury bug.

Among the top teams, you are correct. But Maryland had a tough year. If healthy, they might have been an E8-caliber team, possibly better.
