Isn't it safe to say that the job posting is written to the specifications of the guy they have in mind? If that is true, we should be hearing about a new hire fairly shortly.
Yes, I'm pretty sure they already have their guy when a posting goes up. It also expires Friday. So I'm think by next Monday they announce the hire.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; minimum of six years of full-time experience as an offensive football coach at the collegiate FBS, FCS or NFL within the past 10 years; working knowledge of the correct application of NCAA regulations; strong commitment to the academic goals of the University; and excellent organizational, teaching, communication and public relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; experience as an offensive coordinator or co-coordinator at the collegiate or professional level; playing experience at the collegiate and/or professional level.

Bit different from last OC posting after BD was hired:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; ten years of full-time experience as a collegiate football coach at the FBS level; working knowledge of the correct application of NCAA regulations; strong commitment to the academic goals of the University; and excellent organizational, teaching, communication and public relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree; three years of full-time experience (within the past five years) as an Offensive Coordinator at the FBS level.

I hope we get someone young who's career is on the upswing like we did when we hired Joe Moorehead. If we hired someone like Jeff Quinn I would be less excited.

Only 6 years experience required tells me we are going young.

From Fuller:

"A source confirmed that 2014 offensive coordinator Mike Cummings is still on the staff and he will likely move over to coach the offensive line which is something he has done successfully in the past. The Hartford Courant first reported that veteran offensive line coach Mike Foley will not be part of staff moving forward which I was able to confirm."

Hope this is Deja vu all over again. Last time Offensive Coordinator was moved to Offensive line coach, TJ was named Offensive Coordinator.

He has the resume and UCONN doesn't have to pay for moving expenses! LOL

The posting is just a technicality. The job is filled. I would love to have someone with OC and play calling experience. The problem with Cummings is that he worked for an offensive HC at Central Mich and really did not develop or implement an offense. That was the huge ?? with the hire and it proved to be an issue. The hiring of Cummings was the least acceptable of Diaco's hires even before the season started.

This was the right move. There was obviously a delay in the process with the on and off Foley departure. It will be fun to see the new OC. Also a question of whether it will be announced before signing day. If yes, he may bring along a couple of recruiting surprises.

A source - I cannot believe that someone in the AD office couldnt just confirm this and put their name to it - everything is so secretive around this Football program. When my kids are this secretive something 'not right' is ocurring or there is a surprise party being planned for me - and I dont do parties.

Is this for competitive advantage as well??

I'm going to guess it's someone who's worked with in the past, someone he trusts. Just like the coaching staff he's compiled here.

Charley Molnar might be a good example, but he did get fired as the UMass head coach. He's from NJ, coached in the northeast, and coached with Bob Diaco at ND and at Cinci in '09.

While I'm a TJ Weist fan, and he's qualified, there is approximately 0% chance that happens.

Depends on how many $$ are involved. Mama may need a new car!
You can't keep a guy like TJ down too long. He loves to coach. It would be a huge hit with the fan base. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back.

I could care less what level the person comes from, just get someone who knows how to coordinate an offense, find and create mismatches. there are successful head coaches at big time programs who made the jump from HS juggernauts to college, Chip Kelly was the OC at UNH before Oregon. Go find that guy. Yale produced one of the top offenses in all FCS this past year, UNH is consistently a top 20 offense at that level too. ODU scores a ton of TD's and lights up scoreboards (they just can't stop anybody)....go have a conversation with their OC's, in addition to guys at "bigger" programs who may be ready for the job. Choose wisely grasshopper, choose wisely.

My bet it's someone with a run first mentality. Our QB situation is beyond awful and keeping with what Big Bob has said, we are going to the power running game.

If that was the case, keep Cunningham in there. Diaco recruited 10 receivers and we have a bunch of young receivers coming back. I doubt that he promised all those recruits that UCONN was going with a run first, power running game approach. I have a sneaky suspicion that something may be going on with TJ. Just a gut feeling. Or maybe more like wishful thinking. I do know one thing. If Diaco could reel TJ in, it would be a huge PR jolt for Bob Diaco! I could see the two of them doing great things together.

footballscoop blurb:

UConn: Two weeks ago, Desmond Conner, who covers UConn football for the Hartford Courant, reported that offensive line coach Mike Foley would not be retained. This morning it was brought to our attention that UConn has now officially posted the offensive coordinator position on their human resources website. Bob Diaco is working through the process; but clearly significant change is coming.

heh, does "it was brought to our attention" mean "by Huskymedic"?

This makes too much sense, so we'll end up with an OC who runs the triple option

It's the right call, but we are in for another year of offensive transition... Which terrifies me.

We were going through another year of transition anyway. Staying put wasn't an option. I fear that the following statement may come back to bite me in November 2015, but......................how much worse can the offense get? Any change, even a poor one, almost has to bring an uptick in offense.

Another thing is TJ said all the right things in his exit interviews. He also won more games than Diaco as head coach. He certainly didn't burn any bridges and IMO, left the door open. Take a look at some of TJ's parting comments:

The Departing Weist: 'I Want To Be A Head Coach'
December 18, 2013|By DESMOND CONNER, dconner@courant.com, The Hartford Courant
Former UConn interim football coach T.J. Weist said that he met with new head coach Bob Diaco on Monday but that there was never any discussion about retaining him.

Weist said it never got that far.

"I think, obviously, I believe our staff did a great job, especially at the end, and I wish more guys would have been retained, but that's really up to Bob and building his staff. He's a good guy, really is," Weist said. "I understand, as being the head coach, you've got to have your own people, so it's fully understandable he would go in the direction he best sees fit.

"I made the choice I was going to pursue other opportunities even though me and my wife [Karen] love this university. We bought a house a block off campus. My wife works in the business school. We really fell in love with this place, but I thought it was best to make a decision to pursue other opportunities. I want to be a head coach. Now that I've been a head coach, I want to do it and know I can do it.

"I know there are a limited number of jobs out there. If it doesn't happen this year, it doesn't happen, but I want to be a head coach."

Weist joined the UConn staff as its offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach last December. He was named interim coach after Paul Pasqualoni was fired after an 0-4 start.

UConn athletic director Warde Manuel tapped Weist to lead the team because his energy and enthusiasm had become contagious. Manuel saw it firsthand. However, when asked what Weist would have to do to keep the job, Manuel simply said, "win."

The Huskies finished 3-9, winning their final three games, but it was too little, too late.

"We didn't win enough. That's the bottom line. I know that. We didn't win enough," Weist said.

Weist said that he intends to stay in Connecticut for a while.

"We'll just be here until we decide what we're going to do, but I love the players," Weist said. "I've become close with a lot of them and their families. I've had unbelievable support from everyone throughout the campus — administrators, alumni, players, their families, the coaches, it could not have been a better situation. I believe we did it the right way, built a very positive attitude, sent the seniors off right. It was fun. I thank Warde and [UConn President] Susan Herbst for the opportunity they gave me here, and I wish Bob nothing but the best."

agreed... why the heck did he not make this decision 4 weeks ago? Just sayin... Hopefully he might have someone in mind... someone that is in the know that kids historically want to play for. We need another 'splash' pick here guys... Hope it goes down that way...
Maybe he already has his guy and just cemented the deal?

Worked for me on my last promotion. Manager wanted me for a newly created position but to be fair it had to be posted for anyone to apply. Lo and behold the desired qualifications and preferred minimums looked a lot like my resume.

I would be, because of his quotes (that you posted in your next comment). HC or bust. Maybe at a FCS school.

That was a very emotional time. He is allowed the option of changing
His mind. If Diaco wants him, Diaco is a pretty good salesman.

Exactly what I had thought and supposedly Cummings wouldn't move from OC to OL... Lol

I'm glad he moves to OL and now let's hope we can bring in a really good OC
