Ashley Joens will return to ISU

Draft stock is one thing for sure.

My first thought is does ISU have concerns with the team's depth overall going into the 2022-2023 season? They have one recruit signed for 2022. Replacing Joens' scoring is not going to be easy, regardless when it happens. Not sure who on the roster fills in that gap at the moment.

This seems like a good call. I don't think her draft stock will be that high, and most of the top players in this draft are bigs or tall shooting guards/forwards (6'1" or taller) anyway - at last check, Christyn Williams is the only player under 6'1" projected to go in the first round. Plus the family and location connection, and the probability they will be able to take another crack at deep Tourney run next year (not to mention mop up among the reduced Big 12 Conference competition).

Have to wonder if she has her sights set on Plum’s career scoring record. Obviously there’s a difference between doing that in four years v. five, but she’d still have her name on the record books.

To beat Plum's career scoring record, Ashley would have to score 1,159 points next season.

so far we have had Berger, Reese, and now Joens say they will use their extra covid season. As much I didn't think it was fair for the 2020 class not to get one, am happy for the game of wbb that these 3 players are back

I thought the 2020-2021 class was included for the extra year. I could be mistaken as many have been confused by this.

Super excited and happy for her. Apparently, she is having a blast playing college ball and wants another year at reaching her goals and playing alongside her awesome teammates, that is the ultimate goal in all of this, especially at the college level, playing and having fun. Good for Ashley & Cyclone Nation.

HS class of 2020 (Bueckers, Angel Reese, Brink, Clark) get an extra year if they want it). Class of 2021 does not get an extra year.

Good for Ashley and happy for Iowa State fans. They're one of the most consistent and loyal fan bases in the country, I'm glad to see they'll still be very competitive next year.

Which is super ironic, because IMHO, theirs is the best WNBA draft class in the past 6 or 7 years. I think all of those named players would make a 12-woman roster if they went pro today.
Oh definitely. They'd all be in contention for lottery picks/#1 overall.

But that is what is happening this year as well - the best college players are jumping into professional careers, some of those below the top end are choosing to use a 5th year (as they did last year.) Will be the same going forward for the next two years. What would be interesting is if a projected lottery pick chose to defer for a year.

This was predicted and expected. Another year with her sister and likely more $$$ with NIL especially with the uncertainty of European money in the coming season.
I didn't follow her decision (reasons) closely, but she did go through Senior Night ceremonies when ISU hosted Baylor on February 28, and I believe she fouled out. She was sobbing uncontrollably when she made it to the bench; I just assumed her emotion was because she wasn't going to return for her super senior season.

Good for her. Iowa State will be legit next year. They were pretty legit this year.

Lots to shake out in offseason but are they Preseason #5 after SC, UConn, Stanford, Louisville? Texas probably in that mix too.

Next year's draft class will be insane. We need more franchises to keep the talent for the W.
The WNBA has been talking about it. Last I heard Oakland and Nashville were pushing hard for a franchise. Great to have all of this talent coming through for women's basketball.

Iowa State should be really good next year with Ash. Joens a super-senior and their great junior class.

Grace Berger, though, might be on a rebuilding Indiana team that's losing (I think) three starters and one of their two regular subs.

Gulbe, Patberg and Cardona-Hillary are gone. McKenzie Holmes is back though and that's pretty good piece to partner with Berger! They have #68 HG recruit, Lexus Bargesser coming in and probably a transfer or two-I know some are speculating on Anaya People's from ND which would be very welcome by Teri Morin.

I still believe ISU needs to improve their inside game. Yes, they've got a great junior class, but they struggled with teams where their post players couldn't help take some of the scoring load off of Joens and crew.

Kane has improved over the years. I don't know if Jordao is returning. Their red-shirt freshman Zingaro is a question mark as she hasn't played much.

Ashley Joens is a classy young woman. This is a great announcement for Cyclone Nation, and will virtually guarantee them a spot in next years' top 16. It will have minimal impact on the Top Ten unless they sign an unexpected player through the transfer portal. ISU will always have the potential to knock off a #1 seed if they go 16-30 on 3's (and they're capable), but with their current front line roster the chance to join the elite is minimal. A great group of kids, but Elite 8 will probably be their ceiling.

I don’t think so. There’s a lot of rosters that don’t have bench talent that can play. W talent isn’t deep. Expansion is not a good idea. Several teams are not good markets now. Atlanta pulls awful. No one cares about that team. Liberty can’t draw anymore
