>>According to multiple sources with knowledge of the process, a faction of athletic directors is trying to move the current 11-team conference away from a standalone league and into an all-sport conference.<<

>>The same sources that confirmed the potential for moving the 11-team conference to an all-sport platform also note that none of this is anywhere close to final. Which also might lead one to think that school vs. school, athletic director vs. athletic director, there could be a significant amount of in-fighting that exists.<<

My read is that they are looking at putting it under a multi sport league umbrella. Have that league administration run it and save a lot of overhead costs. It would be like when the old Yankee Conference got absorbed by the Atlantic-10 (and then again by CAA). There would be no change in hockey membership or requirement its members join for all sports.

>>Among the finalists for commissioner, CHN has learned, are current New Hampshire associate athletic director Steve Metcalf, who was recently chair of the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Committee; and Michael Mudd, a St. Lawrence alum who coached at Miami early in his career, and is currently the athletic director at D-III Worcester State. Mudd was previously president of the Worcester Sharks for 12 years; the Sharks are the AHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks.<<

>>Hockey East's athletic directors recently heard a pitch from America East, to share resources such as marketing, office space and web hosting. While sharing resources remains a possibility, sources said any agreement with America East, if there is any, wouldn't go beyond that.

"(Other schools) give this (idea) a big eye roll and single out Lowell as pushing that agenda," a source told CHN.

Lowell is one of four Hockey East schools who are members of America East — the others being Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.<<

Yeah; UConn and Providence are going to leave the Big East, BC the ACC. Right!

No one would have been asking them to.

Near as I or anyone else can tell, the pitch was that America East, as an existing DI multi sport conference, would take over the name and administration of Hockey East in order to pool and share administrative resources and costs. The non-full members (BC, BU, PC, Northeastern, UConn, UMass-Amherst, Merrimack) would have become America East affiliate/associate members, presumably (and there’s zero chance the votes are there to compel all-sports membership).
