(right now)...it pales in comparison to being a Penn St. Football fan. Let's be honest. As rough and embarrassing as missing the playoffs is, it could be so so so much worse.

It sucks being a Uconn basketball fan?

Well I mean, everyone is so down on them not being able to be in the playoffs. I'm just putting it into perspective. Worst things could happen.

That's what I was thinking. He can always cheer for Cincy or Indiana instead.

I am and will always be a UConn fan first.

...however, since UConn can't go to the NCAAs this year, I'll have no problem (i.e. conflict) supporting the Hoosiers this year :D

I know what you are trying to say here but I will always be a Uconn fan no matter what. It is never a sure thing to make the tourny every year but we still cheer for them anyway. I am a football season ticket holder and go to every game knowing it is a long shot to play for a national championship but we can dream can't we.

I knew what you meant. It isn't going to be the easiest year, but I feel pretty good about our chances in 2013-2014.

I think the recruits that we're going to get in the next couple of years could be really good. I think the fact that we even got any recruits this year and that so many of our players stayed shows that the 2013-2014 team could definitely have character. It will never suck to be a Uconn basketball fan.

Next season is just another bump in the road.

Yeah it royally SUCKS that we're banned from both the NCAA and the BET (I think that ban is even more egregious than the NCAA's, but I digress).
But once November rolls around, I'll watch every damn game and yell my head off like I've done for the last 30 or so seasons.....

3 National Championships, 4 Final Fours, 9 Elite Eights, and 17 Big East Championships = it will never suck to be a UConn Fan.

I'll be watching every game this season too. Shabazz and Boat are great guys with promising careers and it's my duty as a UConn fan to support them this season.

While it sucks we're not going to be eligible for a tournament that we probably didn't have a shot at winning this year anyways, we will have a new basketball facility to attract a nice haul for 2013 and then resume our dominance of the Big East or whatever conference we end up in.

Go Huskies!

Excuse me.
I've been a UConn fan for about 30 years.
It has not once, ever sucked.
It's been an awesome 30 years, and I'm happy to have had the honor to be a UConn alum and fan.
The current issues are a very small, very temporary hiccup, nothing more. It will be an excellent building year for our run for the '014 crown. Mark it down. This will make the boys more hungry than usual. This, in fact, may end up being a net positive.

There were multiple posts in this thread that were so nice, I wish I could like them twice. But this is a great way to put things into perspective. If it sucks, jump off the bandwagon.

Aye! The position I like to take, and I hope that many on this board will take. Yet, it recently has seemed so gloomy that I decided to show how bad our situation really isn't. UConn basketball is always great :)

I'm trying to put it in perspective for those who really think this is the end of the world. UConn basketball has always been a rollercoaster, but always one I'd like to ride, no matter how I feel at the end of it. :p

If I get the game, I'll watch it! (Sadly, no more ESPN3 for me :( )

Yeah it sucks big time

<sarcasm off>

be careful what you say NHU, you're slitting your throat! :)

Lol, let's be real. If I thought it sucks, I'd burn all of my UConn stuff. I've got Jonathan hanging up in no less than 4 places 10 feet from my computer. :D

Personally speaking, I will be captivated in seeing how this university takes it forward and moves through this one. Part of being a fan isn't necessarily tagging along when they're winning national championships, but seeing how a program/franchise maneuver when they're not a the top. This point in the program was going to come at some point(JC close to retiring) and they've built it up so high - now a pivotal crossroad in keeping it there. Throw in some of the unique challenges(conference re-alignment, APR disaster, mass exodus, etc.) Sometimes seeing a franchise/program through change is what makes being a fan fun.

And likening a scenario to the worst horrid situation out there is like taking a fat ugly girl and saying life ain't so bad because that girl over there is even fatter. Not sure that one really makes me see anything differently.

I was a fan before a bandwagon was even a hope and to say that it never, ever sucked is to admit to selective memory. The highs surpass the lows by a huge margin, but the "season of no joy" sucked and next year's slate of 30 exhibition games is going to suck.

Can we delete nonsense threads like this?

What good are moderators that don't moderate.

It's only been 15 months since the team cut down the nets in Houston. That sucks? A championship should give any fan base at least a 4 year glow of satisfaction, unless that fanbase is spoiled beyond belief.

FWIW Palatine, if moderators were to delete nonsense threads and comments, the majority of your posts would be the first to go :P
