Will be interesting to see if he develops in the NBA. Came in with big expectations, showed flashes, but he needs lots of work. If I was a GM, I would be nervous to select him. I think he will either be a Howard or a Kwame Brown

I've never heard the Bynum comparison before. I feel like Bynum doesnt have nearly the athleticism that Drummond does but that could be b/c of Bynum's knee injuries. I think Drummond's floor is Deandre Jordan and his ceiling is Howard.

Absolutely agree. I don't particularly like player comparisons, but I've said this before: Drummond and Howard are/were VERY similar as prospects. Both have/had freak amounts of athleticism and a questionable desire for the game.

I agree and I believe it depends on the dedication and effort he gives.

Talent is unquestioned, but he looked like he was giving 30% effort so often. I have never seen a player who was afraid to box out like him before. If he plays with that dedication and effort on the next level he will be on the end of the bench for a lot of years.

A top 5 team could make a mistake not drafting AD.
A top 5 team could make a mistake drafting AD.

We saw him all year and still can't say with certainty how his game will translate in the NBA. He's an investment requiring a well experienced big man coach. If a team invests in him they should reap rewards. If they just stick a uni on him and tell him to go play, it could prove disastrous. He's talented and physically equipped, unfortunately he is not skilled. Fortunately for hum, that can be taught, so teach him! His upside with the proper coaching/team and of course commitment to excellence, is unlimited. He will need a lot of time and experience to develop. I hope no NBA team is looking for instant results.

After the season we just had, I'm having a hard time caring about the draft, even with 2 of our guys expected to go in the top 15.

Andre is physically gifted. But he is not talented. He can't shoot, no post up game, and he didn't show much improvement through his one year of college ball. If I was a GM with an early pick, I don't think I would invest it in AD.

Too often people simply equate offensive skills with talent. Just because he struggles on offense doesn't mean he's not talented.

Stats show that he was the second best post defender in all of college basketball. Simply put, big guys just didn't score on him in the post. How many times did somebody have a successful back to the basket shot last year? Not many.

he's 18 years old with the athleticism of the best center in the league. I'd wager to say professional NBA gms are going to disagree and he goes top 6. Most NBA teams have real big men coaches who's sole job will be to develop him.

Don't think Drummond falls past #3. The draft is pretty weak and you can't pass on his potential. I was looking back at Andrew Bynum's draft...he fell to 10. Here's the four guys taken ahead of him: Martell Webster, Charlie Villanueva, Channing Frye and Ike Diogu.....ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Point being, can't pass on potential like Drummond

I wish Bynum actually came to UConn for at least one year so we could claim him as an alum. If Drummond pans out in the league, UConn could have two of the top 3 centers in the NBA. That'd be pretty impressive to big-man recruits.

I wonder about how much of a factor is a players comfort level with the physical contact/battling that goes on near the basket. I always felt that Thabeet never became comfortable with that part of the game and I wonder if that ever changed in the NBA (I have not really see him play in the NBA). It is less clear whether that applies to Andre as well, but it could. It was mind-boggling at times how he just stood there outside the paint and made no attempt to go in and try to rebound. I don't remember seeing him really box out at all. If he learned how to use his size to carve out position, he could have averaged 15 boards a game. Just did not seem to fit with his nature, somehow. I hope he develops and really learns to be a competitor, because last year he was too much of a friendly, goofy kid on the court. I suspect that how he does with that part of the game will say a lot about how far he goes in the NBA.
