Geno is high energy guy who appears to love basketball. The real question is what would he do that he would like better than coach one of the best programs in the county, one he controls 100% and has full support of Administration? Unlikely any other job would have all of these components.
My opinion is these conversations typically are initiated by posters from other programs who will "shade" the truth to gain any possible advantage.

Its amazing how so many "journalists" just make stuff up. Things like this are fodder for our recruiting competitors.

Well that article was kind of a reach. I think it is great that he appreciates and understands the tremendous value of CD's contribution. Retirement? That seemed to me to be wishful thinking on author's part. Kind of a de facto acknowledgement that no one is going to beat Geno's teams, so we just need to hang tough until he retires.

I will say that I found Geno's quote after the game interesting. He said something like "you look around and there's no one else to conquer." I think that is a reference to the purported Alexander the Great story that he 'looked at the extent of his realm and saw that there were no more worlds to be conquered and he wept.' It fits with this year's veni, vidi, vinci theme.

Combining those two events, I think that Geno has had a moment or two where he has realized the magnitude of what he has achieved, was struck by it and the realization that teaming with CD was a big part of what made it happen. He has won more national championships than any other coach in the history of the game. That would give any of us pause. Give him time to absorb that and to focus on a new goal and he'll be right back in the hunt.

I think also that Geno was under a lot of pressure not to let any thing derail the 4th championship. Stewie Morgan and Mo have meant that much to him. I bet Tuesday night after the game he felt a ton lifted off his shoulders. We forget sometimes Geno and the coaching staff are human too.

I don't think Geno is considering retirement. He said in the post game presser he's looking forward to the challenge next year's team brings.

Also, I think as we grow older that we begin to appreciate more the blessing life has bestowed upon us. Geno looked out and saw so many of his former players, stars, at the game. And as he said, you appreciate those who have come into your life and the impact they have had on it.

We all know Geno has promoted UCONN women's basketball as a family. And it is. This past tournament was proof positive. Geno is the "father."

But 62/ 63 is young. He's not ready. Would not be surprised at a contract extension in the next year or so.

So all the rest can have their wishfull thinking. Geno is not going anywhere.

Geno is not going anywhere. Not to the NBA, not to retirement. There is so much challenges in the very near future. The task of rebuilding the team after the big 3, of competing the new world of increase parity, of the possibility of losing critical games, those are the challenges that it will be difficult for a competitive coach to walk away from. May be, one day when it's no longer fun, then as he said, he will walk away from it all. But not yet!!!

I agree with everyone else. This is a classic wishful overreaction. "OMG -- he got emotional! He must be on the verge of retirement!" Hope springs eternal.

I have to think that Geno will no longer be the Olympic coach after this year's Olympics. (He is already the first two-time head coach in WNT history.) That alone will have to feel like a semi-retirement for Geno, to get all those "national team" months each year back for himself.

Yes he is. He started getting ready for retirement 35 years ago. He just hasn't set a date. I on the other hand will retire in 13 months. I started preparing 24 years ago

I agree 100% and would like your post 1,000 times if I could. I don't get why people feel the need to post that crap. I wish the mods would delete those posts because they are inaccurate and unfounded. To me it's just like us speculating that a certain player is gay, or another player is going to transfer. We should not be allowed to speculate on drivel that involves Geno retiring.

As you said, just because a writer posts it as an opinion piece does not make it true or accurate. We all know there is tons of on the internet that is blatantly untrue. Hell, that's what The Onion exists for - to put ridiculous and crazy stories out there. I agree - STOP POSTING THIS CRAP!
