I always say its a psychological thing with UConn hate. It is opposing fans hating our success.

"UConn football sucks, it will never be anything" translates, "UConn is good at everything except football, I hope they don't get really good at football too" .

"Jim Calhoun should retire" means "please god, let Calhoun retire so we have a better chance of winning titles".

for god's sake, cant all these uconn haters consolidate to one webpage(yahoo perhaps) so we dont have to waste any more time trying to avoid such jackasses!

Doyel's a joke and a mean one at that. All one really needs to do is just hear one of his live interviews where someone disagrees with what he has written to get an appreciation of what an idiot the guy really is.

I especially love the comments below the article where a Kentucky fan of all things goes off on what a sleazeball Calhoun is. Ha ha the irony.....

What really cracked me up was his statement that "Calhoun legally funneled money" to those beltway ballers. Well, if it was legal then, then there was no problem. So many MD fans complained that the NCAA changed that rule. But, it was legal when JC did it. Thus, nothing to mention. But Doyel mentions this as his best effort to make JC look bad.

The only thing worse than the actual article are the stupid responses by readers that are feeeding into his BS

Yup I was quite sure you were, from other posts as well... Apologies

No big deal... other posts? Herr, huh? On this board, I'm probably a homer--which I guess isn't saying much.

He legally funneled money to a Parks&Rec. center. That was dirty, if you compare it to Gary Williams, who was legally funneling money to the Pump Brothers (actually, Williams was doing something illegal, comping F4 tix to the Pumps which they were reselling).

I'm guessing the confusion lies in the fact that there is a Cuse poster called Upstate.

Also love that the article suggests that Calhoun's quote about "not needing an extention" was somehow a shot at his bosses. Further, at the end of the article Doyel states that he doesn't know the name of the new school president, yet he seems to be positive that - whoever the new president is - she must not like Calhoun very much. Naturally, he couldn't be more wrong.

A negative article from CBS? WHAT A SHOCK!!! What next? A negative article from Wetzel or one of the other tards at Yahoo? All of these guys need a good beating, including you Jeff Jacobs! And I can't wait until Calipari slips up again. The bourbon-swilling-inbred-hick-banjo-playing-rednecks deserve everything they get now. The squid has managed to maintain plausible deniability but even Gotti eventually got caught. And I hope a gang member sodomizes and executes World Wide Wes.

screw the idiot. I think JC can coach a few more years, but his health is paramount. I just think that we don't have a replacement on campus. JC can coach any kid who is coachable.

I'd like to ask the writer - Are you stupid or just dumb? One of the best coaches in the country, period. I don't think anyone is better at developing average talent into good/great players.

It was inevitable that this wanker weighed in at some point, media types are nothing if predictable and unoriginal.
I wonder how many people know what a wanker is.....at least as it is used in Ireland???

Do people not know what wanker means?

It might be possible to make an argument that Calhoun should have retired after last year's championship game. Going out on top, an unexpected win, and knowing what we now know about his health, and the problems from 2010 with his health, as well as the NCAA issues, but Doyel certainly doesn't make that case. He simply tries to make a cmparison to two coaches in a different sport, who arguably stayed too long. Though it is a comparison that doesn't really fit. And we are a year removed from a national championship, 3 form yet another Final Four... His argument is sort of silly as he made it.

Further, had Calhoun retired after last year, Greg Doyel still writes a Jim Calhoun article, except it reads something like this:

"Jim Calhoun left his precious Uconn men's basketball program just in time - he also left it in a state of disarray, disrepair, and disgrace. He ran off into the sunset so he wouldn't have to face the embarrassment of a 3 game suspension for recruiting violations and a possible postseason ban for poor APR scores. He'll let the next coach deal with those issues while he watches replays of the 2011 National Championship game that set basketball back 50 years. Once again the mean old Irishman gets off unscathed, while everyone else is forced to clean up the mess he created."

In other news, peanut butter is a problem for jelly, wheelchairs are a problem for people who can't walk, and alcohol is a problem when trying to get drunk.

Wow,obviously just didn't do his homework and obviously doesn't like UConn and especially doesn't like JC.

I love the whole "ran off" Hathaway line, without looking at the fact that JH NEEDED to be run out of town, whether Calhoun liked him or not. Look at how much has happened money wise for facilities, since Pendergast took the temporary reigns.
