If you simply look at Whitmer's numbers laid out so simply, and then looked back at this board, you'd have to ask yourself WTF all this anger is about. The numbers say that, despite being on a bad team with a line that was horrific until recently, he has played competently. Does he move well within or without the pocket? Nope. Does he get rid of the ball quickly enough often enough? Nope. But this guy is not Bones either. When he throws the ball, good things are happening an acceptable percentage of the time.

It's true everywhere but especially here -- fans focus way too much on the QB. We can't be a great team with Whitmer, but there is no reason we can't be a moderately good one if there had been better play around him all year. Remember that we did go 5-7, in a much tougher conference, with him playing two years ago.

CW has a ton of heart and can be (will have to be) a servicable QB to finish the year. The stat line above doesn't include the 4 additional fumbles and the points off TO's they've led to for the opposing team. He's seemed to have turned a corner the past 2 weeks (save the fumbled snap last week), and he can make some plays. Hopefully he continues with this style of play to finish out his career here.

And if his jersey is kept clean this week, his sack average will be down to an even 3/game. yikes.
