Army and Navy in Top 25 October 13-14

If you’re trying to sell recruits on getting them ready for the next level, the triple option ain’t it. So it’s perfect for them since they seldom get NFL level talent.

And yeah it’s outside the the norm so sorry it’s a system, gimmick offense.

I think this Army’s usual once in a quarter century great season. They will go back to sucking again here shortly.

The service academies are now most likely to have the most consistency with roster composition and stability.

There's an opportunity for them to hang in the 15-25 range because of the roster stability.
Air Force BB lost 6 guys in the Portal

almost totally agree here, except the "gimmick" part - the triple option is a legit offense, we should not take that away from it. It's boring and outdated, but it's a legit gameplan.

I feel like in this context, a gimmick is the stupid ahh trick plays UConn was running almost every game under Nick Charlton. A feigned attempt at innovation and deceit - aiming to outsmart the opponent but tripping over your own ankles before he was fooled.

yes, but military academies always lose players like normal schools do. Calling it "the portal" isn't exactly correct
According to the article, after year two, you need to either commit to your final two years and 5 years of service or not. My guess is that anyone who leaves did so before then.

From the article:
After a student’s second year here, they are required, if they wish to continue, to sign an agreement binding them to complete their junior and senior years, plus five years of active duty. The fine for breaking the agreement is in the six figures. It is an obvious incentive to stay.

if you leave you also owe backpay to the academies for time and tuition

Gimmick doesn’t mean illegitimate. But it’s definitely a gimmick, particularly back in the day with Navy’s ridiculous chop blocks.

These might be the coolest helmets ever. They're pairing these with their all blacks this weekend vs Air Force.
