I get the NIL and school money is alive and well, but reading the leaves: Finnish 7'1" commits to Arkansas "I'm going to Arkansas to help them win a national championship" comes off like "Calipari paid the most". Period.

I think it’s pretty clear overall that players seeking the biggest bag regardless of school and/or programs willing to shell out the biggest bag on a unproven player usually don’t work out.

There was a recent prospect summit event, where despite being asked to answer in English (which he speaks) he just decided to reply in Finnish. Also supposed didn’t really jive with his America teammates / culture during his HS stint here.

But he’s also 7 feet and a 99t percentile athlete 👀.

Never seen as much public drunkenness as I have on a Friday evening in the summer in Helsinki. Incredible. Loved it.

When I visited in the early 1970's, in September, I was impressed with the architecture of Helsinki, almost looked like what I have seen in pictures of Russian cities. Felt real safe to walk outside at late hours in Helsinki.

It got dark about 10 and got light around 2 a.m. Process reverses in the winter.

Some, but not all, could speak English. In Denmark and Sweden, they speak it fluently and with a very pleasant accent, but fewer speak English in Norway from what I remember.

Finland is awesome. Helsinki, Turku, and Tampere are beautiful, modern, clean cities on the Baltic Sea. And then the whole rest of the country is pretty much untouched and pristine nature. Thousands of lakes, saunas, little cottages, reindeer, bears, berries, quiet forests. They are obsessed with hockey (basketball rapidly becoming number two), pastries, coffee, saunas, and quiet.

Those European bar rules are awesome! I remember being in college closing a bar with the sunrise and the staff staying while we were spending lol yup, Fins can put them down with the best and they can fight..one fearless nation!
