Quite the drama going on with IU fanbase/their insiders/alleged burner accounts on Twitter and forums... Some feel that all 3 are a done deal to IU. That is probably just the typical bravado of their fanbase... they do have a large NIL supposedly though, and plenty of minutes to offer as well.

Most IU fans agree, regardless of the players they get, this staff won't do the right things with them. A lot of fans have mixed feelings on Ballo because it means continuing to play 2 bigs which has been dubbed "fugly wanker ball" in many corners of the fanbase lol...

IMO, Ballo does not fit the profile of Hurley's typical recruits. He is a horrific FT shooter and supposedly going to the highest bidder as a one year rental. I expect Hurley will get someone that may not be ranked as highly but will inevitably look way better next season than Ballo if he ends up at IU.

Rice gotta get better from 3 but that would be a nice pickup for them at PG considering their PG play last season

Ware is going to get drafted, and if there's any criticism of Indiana is that they use their bigs TOO much. So yeah, it's a good landing spot for a transfer center. But the dominos are starting to fall.
 
That's a man right there. A walking double-double. He would've been a huge get.

Disappointed. Doesnt look like Dan Hurley and Staff put the work in to try to land him. He was an obvious fit to replace DC.
 
If JC was still coaching and Ballo said I’m yours for 1.5 million coach JC would probably laugh and say come back and see me after you play a year in the NBA.

Hurley will rarely undermine his integrity. At least not deliberately. He meant it when he wanted Samson to not leave UConn last season and had to recruit him to stay. It was likely he was going to be Donovan’s backup this year but I can imagine he would have told Samson when Donovan leaves Samson would be the starter.

It’s why they went for a player that is complementary to Samson and did not try to recruit over him.

The value that Hurley will get from this reputation should not be trivialized. There are still families and players, good players, that look for a program that emphasizes this over money. The Castles and Spencer’s prove this. This loyalty will only reinforce that position.

What’s amazing is Tom Moore had to find a player who would really provide help to the position and not offend Samson. And he did that with Reed. That is not an easy find.

We definitely have the best coaching staff in the country.

Tend to think you are spot on with this. Hurley honors loyalty, it goes both ways. He emphasizes culture, and that would not be reinforced with mercenaries over home growns. The equity built in this is that he will retain players over time, who will culture carry year over year and know the system, and be able to teach new joiners. With Cam, there was a glaring hole that no one on the roster to fill. That’s not the case with next years 5.
