I didn't hear the interview, but my basic sense is that:
1. He is going to be positive. What else do you expect him to say, "Yeah well we're going to suck but it is what it is?"
2. Same with UConn and Cincy. He can't really say, "Hey they're caling every other conference on the planet and I don't blame them. I'd leave this steaming pile first chance I get too."
3. He isn't going to say "the ESPN deal sucks but they had us over a barrel."
So he's left with talking about what a great conference it is, what a great deal we got and how "involved" UConn was in making it happen. Hey, at least he's trying to be positive. I remember a previous commissioner who responded to a football question by asking whether St Johns would have names on the back of their shirts this year...
