Are we underestimating the Big East?

Now that the calendar changes to conference play my attitude on the matter changes dramatically. One week ago I would’ve been saying “3 losses at the most.” Today, my opinion remains the same but with heavier reservations.

For instance, tonight has been penciled in as a win by the oddsmakers (UConn -14.5 or so) but Butler always plays us tough despite never beating us.

Seton Hall is a 2 point loss vs USC out at Maui away from being undefeated.

Providence has some pieces.

Omaha is still Omaha.

Johnnies will be competitive throughout.

We ALWAYS struggle on opening day. Even last year we had to sweat out an OT game in Hartford vs Xavier and Sean Miller.

Tell me I’m just overreacting…

Go Huskies!
The answer is no….its awful

Let’s just be honest - we have outgrown this conference and do not fit well. Only state school. Also have football. Actually perform. On and on. Time to find a new home. I’ll miss the BET at MSG but that’s about it.

Just don’t understand these folks who think DB hasn’t thought of a new home . They should be sure to suggest it to him.
We don’t have a new home because no one wants us. The Big East is the only place that wants us.

I don't think anyone hates the BE - likely a little frustrated over the fact it's in a descending pattern that is unlikely to stop (I know some will argue this). Too many factors pointing in the direction that it won't. We're a state school with a FB program in a league of FB-less Catholics, with the best mens/womens hoop program. We're now kinda carrying the league.

I spoke to my niece this week about where her top student friends are applying to college. They're targeting schools like Clemson, Georgia & Tennessee. This is the trend folks. Social Media is driving it. Kids these days are gravitating to big brand state schools in warmer locations, as they see all the culture there as attractive. The football games, the social events, the culture.

Weird how any posters wish UConn was still in the American.
How long are you going to keep up with this bit?
Show me one post where someone said they wished UConn was back in the AAC - if not stop being insipid about this topic.
The NBE sucks overall in nearly every sport but mens soccer and mens basketball (which has gone downhill over the past few years)

Slow holiday week for hoops, but Nova @ Seton Hall tomorrow night should be somewhat entertaining.

I actually respect the posters who actually want to be in the AAC, because at least they are honest about it. Worse are the posters who say "no one wants to be in the American, BUT" and then they go on a rant about how terrible the Big East is and how we should get out. Trashing the current situation without having any solution is trolling and cowardice. Since the only other realistic option is the American, it is fair to assume that anyone writing a dead-end, Big East trashing post is calling for a return to the American. Or they are a gutless troll. Their call.

Judging by your reaction score being about 8,000 less than your posts, I think YOU are the troll little Nelson.

Oh, I'm sure there's other places that want us, just nowhere else we would actually go.

It will either happen 2030 through 2036 or it won't happen at all. We will see.

I am guessing you are a Syracuse fan, but several schools are possibilities. Whoever you root for, it definitely is NOT UConn.

That must be why I get an average of 7 likes per post on a UConn messgae board right fella? 😆

I try to be as understanding as possible, but I cannot grasp the idea that any criticism of the current state of the BE leads to a knee-jerk reaction, claiming that it indicates the desire to return to the AAC.

For the big picture, I hope Willard turns into something close to what many have believed he could become, as the only legitimate hope for a second high value brand in this conference is Villanova.

The remaining schools all fall into a category where it's good for the conference when they're doing well, but on a national level, nobody would notice when they aren't, which is where most of the conference currently resides.

The best thing for us to do is accept that it is what it is.

That is not what is happening.

Yeah it's kind of zero sum for the big east as a whole, but massive for those 2, one of the biggest games of the season for each.
Maybe a tie would be good for BE. Or, 8OT ala Cuse Huskies.

Actually, I would love to see a 3rd team(assuming Johnnies get it together) develop to be dominant against the rest of the Conference. To me, deeper runs by fewer teams trumps a plethora of 1st or 2nd round departures.

Love your optimism, but outside UConn which other team in the Big East will make a deep run in NCAA tournament? More likely, UConn will be the only Big East team still playing after the first weekend.

League is not good this year as of today. Looking like a 2-bid league and SJU is looking like a bubble team (of course, I still expect them to take one of our games). I think the likely scenario is that the BE slips to fifth among the hoops P5 and slips closer to the non-P5 then to the top four conferences. Maybe it will look different next year and I do think Nova and Xavier will be better for sure and maybe Butler too but who knows if Pitino stays at SJU? His presser on Saturday wouldn’t have installed confidence that he is committed there. Holloway is good but has limited resources. Is Shaka staying in Milwaukee? Is McDermott retiring early? Can’t feel great about Cooley and English.

The MAAC has been begging us for years!

Your statement about the Big East being "closer to the non-P5" is provably wrong by every single metric. Why did you say that?
