Says Malik Newman...

The slowest texter?

Connecticut head coach Kevin Ollie.

“Coach is my man, but it takes him a while to respond,” Newman said with a laugh.

Perhaps he’s adjusting to the weight of the blingage in his brand new national championship ring?

“That’s what I’m saying; that could be it!” Newman joked. “I’ve got three state title rings so I know how that can be. You eventually adjust to all that ice.”

I thought these quotes had to be excerpts from a much longer article. Nope.

I do enjoy when reporters bring up that championship to recruits.

Sorry Malik. Bron and I were just texting about our old Cleveland days and then KD had a question about J Lamb, and you know how KD can be a Chatty Kathy.

Plus Iverson wanted me to call him back -- unless you are too young to remember him in his prime, in which case it was Westbrook.

Not to mention Ray Allen wanting advise on where to play next year...

“But they wait about 10 or 15 minutes between their responses and I’m like ‘Man come oooon!”

15 minutes to reply to a text! Come on KO! What else do you have to do besides be at the beck and call of these teenagers?

Ollie response should be:

Hi Malik, sorry for the delay, but I’ve been busy…
Winning a National Championship (again)…
Meeting the President (again)…
Preparing my players for professional careers…
Turning down NBA offers…
Traveling around the country all summer long…
Watching top high school players at camps, who are interested in UConn…
Speaking at numerous basketball camps…
Developing & advising current UConn players…
Focusing on this upcoming season…
Trying to build another championship team…
Making sure the new state of art UConn Basketball facility is top notch…
Oh, trying to spend time with my family too…
If you want to join us, you can… again sorry for the delay…

(Was that in the Twitter character limitations??? )

Texting is the escalator. KO writes out his reply longhand (longhand is the stairs, man), then gives it to his secretary to send the text. Takes some extra time and effort, but that's how you win championships, man!
