We've had pretty broad agreement on a top 7 contenders of:

UCLA, SC, TX, ND, LSU, UCONN & USC.

LSU not loved, but they find a way to win.

A variety of teams have challenged to be #8, but then stumble. KY most recent v Miss.

Current contenders TCU, tOSU, and the triangle of Duke, NC St, and NC.

Even if UConn does lose to SC, it would appear that Huskies will stay top7. Why? UConn currently still (surprisingly) #2 in NET, and mostly just because the teams pushing at #8 and #9 will end up with 5+ losses.

Exception would be if one of the contenders above managed to run the table from here. Unlikely.

In the fun head to head column:

UConn lost to Tenn
Tenn lost to Vandy
Vandy lost to Michigan St
Michigan St lost to Oregon
Oregon lost to South Dakota State

So South Dakota St is a new Final Four candidate.

Butler did not play USC, so it’s not quite the same thing. In the case of Tennessee and UConn we have head to head results to go by, so we know which team is better (at least for the moment).
Your point is valid though- polls are meaningless. They don’t determine seeding for the tournament, they don’t earn teams money; polls are just for fan bragging rights. It’s not even a national poll but the opinion of 32 people.

This hardly deserves a response -- obviously the rankings are based on a team's overall record for the season, not one game. But following your logic, since Tennessee lost to Vanderbilt a few weeks ago, should Vanderbilt be ranked above TN?
There are no criteria for the rankings, it’s opinion. Someone could vote, say, Providence #1 if they wanted

I just read an article on ESPN that this week was UConn's 600th straight week in the AP top 25 poll, dating back to preseason 1993. It's the longest streak of all time. For comparison, South Carolina has 242 weeks straight.

Wow.

Hasn’t Geno taken y’all to something like 35 straight Seeet 16s? (I have always considered the number 25 kind of meaningless)

My personal ranking is based primarily on Quad one and two records. An undefeated team that has played five Quad 1s is always at the top.

Each team gets two points for a quad one win and 1 point for a quad 2 win. Each team loses a point for each quad one loss, two pts for a quad 2, loss, thrrr pts for a quad 3 loss and four points for a quad 4 loss.

Thus:
1 UCLA with 19 points.

2 SCar with21 points
3. Texas with 20 pts
4. Notre Dame with 16 pts
5. LSU with 14 pts
6. U$C with 13 pts

7. UConn, Duke and Kentucky with 8 pts.

Kentucky has a rough ride ahead

And Duke went and beat South Dakota State on the road. Lemme book hotel reservations for Tampa :p

One of the voters, Mitchell Northam, WUNC, voted Tennessee at 10 and UConn at 11, so...
This same voter has also UNC at #8 whom UConn beat and NC State #7. I'd look at the location of the AP voters before using them as a benchmark - biases everywhere
