AP Poll - Week 6

Iowa St has no business moving ahead of Uconn in the polls after beating a stupidly overrated Purdue team.
You don't think curb stomping Purdue in Mackey by 25 and being undefeated is worth the jump? Meanwhile also passing the eye test. This the same Purdue that throttled Texas Tech and beat Bama on the road. It was a toss up to me, but don't take this one too hard. Who cares.

It really depends on where we finish. If we win tomorrow, I would wager we finish the year as a top 3 team given the BE slate.

I honestly don’t see many BE teams even on the road this year that are going to give us problems unless they light it up from 3.
I think we'll have difficulty when we visit Seton Hall just because.

Good wins for sure but those teams have 2 Ls already and imho going into Kansas and winning close beats going to Purdue and winning big.

.-.
Interesting that Borges had the largest cumulative variance of his own picks versus the actual AP poll this week.
I don't know what to make with Borges. I feel like half the time I'm nodding in fervent agreement and the other half I'm wondering if we live on the same planet. But I guess it takes that kind of personality to make a name for yourself as a sports writer...

Stop hating! Iowa State played their Championship game the other day and one. Let them celebrate something during the season.

Its only temporary.

We are not ready yet anyway, I say January.

.-.
Why wouldn't we? AZ is out. We started out ranked 4 behind Houston, Purdue and Florida. All those teams are behind us as of now.
Agreed. A 5+ point win over Arizona would have us at number 1 right now with a chance to go undefeated in america’s toughest OOC

Everyone but Duke and Gonzaga have tougher conference schedules than we do. Teams are going to catch Ls and the occasional random Ls

Winning enough to get that one seed is all that matters to me. UCONN healthy, with a 1 seed, with Hurley and the squad, I’ll take my fuc$&8ng chances. You can have the field

Having been that one three years running, I've learned not to expect anything there.

We need to start scheduling like Few going forward - he knows what he's doing. The BE isn't the WCC, but it's trending in a direction that looks a lot more like it than a P4. It's hard to call the BE a P5 anymore at this rate & descending pattern. I don't care what Shizzle calculates across the bottom of our league, it is evident the league is trending rapidly in the wrong direction. I don't see a lot happening in recruiting as the best class in the incoming outside of us is Creighton & Gtown at 35 and 37. That's in the same ballpark as programs like Loyola and Colorado St. That's not going to get it done As we see with a guy like Shaka, you're not going to win regularly nurturing up 100 type recruits. You'll potentially get lucky every once in a while, but it's low odds.

This all becomes an ecosystem of brand. Then the top portal recruits ask themselves why they want to go play in a stodgy conference with no great players or buzz. MSG ain't enough anymore. If you don't have a few top 25 type teams coming into the BE tourney, it's honestly not all that exciting.

I honestly don't know what McDermott was thinking with this portal class. It's kinda like enough with the slow white guys from Iowa to go along with your other slow guys. You had a beanstalk you could rely on the last 8 years to mask a lot, but Neal was a really big part of that offense last year. You couldn't go out and find yourself a couple real athletes to compliment your stable of non-athletes?

I don't recall a year where there was so little movement in the top 20 and seemingly the teams all lost only to each other. It probably happens every year and I don't notice.

seemed like the best place for this

Titus was all over Hurley last year for the antics, but I respect his opinion. He watches the games, knows the sport. Even as a B10 homer, he's a great take. He might have kept the bench warm at OSU, but he knows hoops. He's the best listen out there, albeit sporadic.

“Don’t Put Me In Coach” still one of my favorite basketball books out there.

I guess the cap for the 1 loss club is #5. Would have liked UConn to slot up but fineeee

Seton Hall has votes!!!
It's weird cuz we beat the #1 team in the country . . . but Michigan and Iowa State both lambasted good teams and PUKE has arguably the best freshman in the country so it isn't the end of the world to be #5.

And who honestly cares. I think they got it right, you could debate 4/5 but what's the point? I simply see this as those being the top 5 teams, then can maybe include Purdue in there as a true top 6.

Am I missing something?

Although it's fun to see our program near or at the top of the polls, I'm really not all that concerned.

Keep on winning to build as good a metrics as possible that the committee uses to seed teams is what I care about. Winning out our nonconference schedule and taking care of conference business is key. Oh, and simply improving on both ends of the floor each game is extremely important. No matter where you end up being seeded, it's how well you compete against any style of play that wins you a national title.

I wish the BE was better, but we can't control that.
