AP Poll - Week 14 | The Boneyard

AP Poll - Week 14

He did not have them ranked last week. I get the idea of not wanting to seem biased, but still…

Thinking 21-23, not great wins, so let’s say 22.

Utah State? Sureeee.

They’re 0-3 in Q1 and have 2 Q4 losses. I agree with Borges there are a lot of teams, well more than 25, that deserve votes. But Utah State is definitely not one of them.

Our own beat writer doesn't have us ranked when we are clearly deserving of a top 25 spot, jeez.

This. Utah State is probably the third or fourth best team in their conference. They're good, but not top 25 good

Dang, that's his 4th or 5th FoW award - loving AK!
for all the love Clingan gets, and rightly so, Karaban had to be the odds on favorite for Freshman of the year in the BE.

#23

We blew a 20 point lead to DePaul and barely beat Georgetown.

I wonder if you actually know such details for every other team?

Rhetorical question really, of course you don't, nobody does. Every team in the country plays games closer than oddsmakers or fans think they should be played, without one exception

.-.
Somehow it's only our media guys and alums who do this, while most of the Big Ten, SEC, Big XII, Pac-12 guys are relentless homers.
Borges was higher on us than consensus for most of the year, even voted us #1 a couple weeks. He's paying more attention than others, for good or for bad depending on how the season is going.

Yet in Andy Katz's Power 36 UConn is nowhere to be seen. Admittedly, I don't know the metrics he uses, but if they are #21 in the AP Top 25, how are they not even among his 36?

Probably because we only have one good win since xmas.

Utah State 2 votes

UConn just needs to show decently from here on out because at the end of the year, it's OOC wins are really going to look good, given the way those opponents are playing.

His rankings are as useful as an umbrella in a hurricane.

As an analyst for NCAA.com, do his rankings have more or less credibility? Are they simply just his opinion, or do they hold more or less weight than the AP rankings or other measuring tools?

Katz's rankings are meaningless, just his personal opinion as to how to teams look at the moment. Trust me UConn is not a 10 seed at the moment, which is the best we could be if not top 36...lol.

Who knows UConn may end a 10 seed if don't win enough games down the stretch, but at this moment the very worst UConn would be is a 5 seed. So what the Katz top 36 actually reflects is anyone's guess, not even sure he knows.

We are about to find out how good this team is. We aced the non-conference but have only one good win since and 2 bad losses. The return games vs these other ranked teams will sort our seeding. If we lose all of them our bubble could burst. Going 14-0 with as many Q1 and Q2 wins then going 7-10 shouldn't make you a bubble team but... the team that's gone 4-6 since can also lose all 7 remaining games when they are against an uptrending Creighton, Nova on the road, and 5 teams who already beat you.

It seems like a conflict of interest that he works for NCAA.com.
