AP Poll for December 23 - UConn stays at #11

Did no one ahead of us lose this week? Or were our wins not that impressive?

pulling from my post on....another forum....it's been a long slow decline: Okay, what's become of ACC Hoops?

Era 1: Classic ACC. This is the pre 2007 timeframe. UNC and Duke were UNC and Duke. Maryland was around. GT and NCSU were knocking on the doors (it's even gaudier if you look back further)

Era 2: The first Doldrum 2008-2013 - This is the time before ACC broke up the Big East. The only particularly competitive schools were Duke and UNC. No other team finished in the top 15 for this entire 6 year stretch. That's a pretty incredible fall-off for a conference that had been top-3 every year which has data. Many ACC fans denied any such falloff, but the writing was on the wall for the old guard.

Era 3: Expansion and UVA. 2014-2019 - Virginia dominated the conference from a rankings perspective for 6 straight years. Filling in the gaps were hired hands Syracuse, Pitt, UL, ND, and Miami, who all had top 20 finishes.

Era 4: Current era. 2020 and later. Virginia was not able to sustain their success. The aforementioned hired guns have fallen off a cliff, and the ACC has finished about last or worse among power conferences every year. The lost coaching talent of Brey, Bennet, Boeheim, and Pitino have not been replaced. Davis has not shown he can keep UNC competitive year in and year out.

We win and we drop. KenPom, too. Our MoV must not be large enough.

We significantly underperformed our recent trend on the defensive end the last two games. Of course we dropped.
 
We are fairly ranked by everything I have seen. We are not a top ten team right now. I think we will be top five by the end of the year if the improvements we are seeing continue.

But I am very confident we will get there. Not saying or comparing this team to the last two years but there is one trend I hope continues.

First we start by getting off to slow starts and having to overcome the slow starts, then we start to put it together start quicker, but take our foot of the gas and start playing to the competition level.

The last part is when we start fast keep our foot on the gas and win all the games comfortably.

Part of each years evolution. I know we will be much better at the end of February than we are now.

Kenutcky lost to Ohio St. and that was it ahead of us. Should we be ahead of them? Maybe, but that was only semi-possible jump (up to 10).
 
Work in progress, just important we keep growing game to game and taking the wins for now as some of these other teams will cannabalize during league play. The next 8 are on the soft side and are a good opportunity to keep fine tuning. Would hope to go 7-1-ish and to keep the momentum into the heart of the BE schedule.

We are two calls or 2 baskets and separately a T away from having one loss. I definitively think we can be top 10 easy as the season unfolds. Hopefully we get better on D too.
 
It’s nice to be in the top 15 after the debacle in Maui. The year is setting up nicely
