It's amazing the margin of error between being ranked high, ranked low and unranked.
Just about all our losses could have gone the other way. But when you consider the eye test and results our trajectory has been downward, and another loss, this time with McNeeley back, albeit with rust, apparently sealed our fate. And you can add the reported PG issues as a contributing factor for the voters.
As posted recently, I don't remember a UConn team that fits the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde description. One stretch in the first half they looked like a top 10 team. Then the wheels fell off where they looked more like an unranked and defeated team.
Interesting that Marquette is in the throws of a 3 game losing streak that included a loss at home to UConn, at SJU and at Creighton they dropped a lot but not out of the top 25. They usually only drop a program so far, but it shows how the polls have a measure of subjectivity.
Not to muddy this thread, but it seems our 2025 postseason destiny is likely tied to the mistep of failing to add a more appropriate cultural and skill fit for the PG position and what creative adjustments that the staff can deploy to offset that. Most of us remember the adjustment the staff did in 2023 using Ajax as a point forward right in the middle of the D. Can the staff apply some sort of wrinkle and give Diarra some time off to get healthy while getting some Ws till he returns? Regardless if they can rest him or not, they need to figure something out and hope Alex gets back on track. More close losses are not going to help our cause.

That loss to Colorado was a stink bomb when it happened, and it just gets worse with age.
The refs were terrible in Maui, and that tournament knocked our season off kilter and we haven’t recovered.

Please stop blaming the refs for those losses. We should have beat Memphis by 15 and Colorado by 25. We put ourselves in position to lose both games by not playing UConn basketball.

The Maui definitely rubber stamped an uphill season. While we’ve done a few good things along the way to redeem, not enough. The good wins don’t look as good right now. The issue has been consistency. Even in game this team can be night or day. You don’t know what you’re getting way too often.
Yeah the Colorado loss was bad and trust me it felt worse being there in Maui and watching it from the bleachers. But I thought UConn recovered nicely from the Maui debacle. If I had to say one thing that has really knocked this season off kilter is the McNeeley injury. UConn was clicking on all cylinders before he got hurt. I think they would have been undefeated in Big East play if he remained healthy.
How much can he do?? You need someone to handle the ball. We are severely limited. Cant turn someone into pg overnight.
It was bad enough when Hass was healthy, but now…..

I share this sentiment. Plus, we can be nasty fans too, to our own guys at times. Most Nutmeggers are New Yorkers w/out the blue orb in the garden (@RuffRuff, you left out the orb and the ball of provolone tied with string, but I was cracking up at your description)
I agree with the miscalculation on some roster spots. They've hit on 90% of their recruits it feels like, and maybe this year's roster issues will be helpful errors as this era of the program progresses.

StJ and Marquette were an issue because they extended pressure and we needed a PG to bring the ball up and handle it safely.
Against Creighton we need someone to just trot it up and initiate the offense. They also run a really big lineup out there outside of Ashworth.

Smoked Iowa St earlier in week. Quality win to net out the bad loss. That team is super schiz.
Agee fir this game, but we r in trouble against any team that can pressure the ball. Could you imagine playing Bama….
The fix in 23 was just moving Ajax from a shooters spot. He already had the skill set for his new role. We don’t have anyone else with the PG skill set.
I just don’t see how we scheme our way out of this mess, especially in tourney time when guard play is paramount

Was just going to say this. BT has mentioned it in the past how little he watches college basketball and St. John's outside of a game or two here and there. Just a casual fairweather fan that is only talking about it because they beat the premier team in New England & Tri-State area for the past 30 years. Let's see what happens at Storrs South and see if they bother covering it then.

Hurley needs to get creative - running it out there the way he has ain’t gonna do much this year. Overly relying on a season long GTD PG isn’t the solution. Find a way to create matchup problems, something that nets an advantage.

Even with Diarra healthy we needed another guard. Also your other guard should be closer to your second best ball handler than your fourth best ball handler. We missed on the guards this year it is what it is. We can still win and make some noise and a run to the second weekend but Liam is going to have to play like an all American and AK is going to have to hit threes at his previous rate. Those two things have to happen for this team to compete with the top teams.
Every team has gotten better since November, us not so much.

I grew up listening to wfan and have never stopped. I live in Nashville and the callers from NYC area speak my language. It feels like a shot of red gravy in a sea of whatever they call gravy down here.
Nothing is more entertaining than some 60 year old dude from Yonkers propose a 'Gleyber Torres for Teoscar Hernandez + Will Smith' trade. You don't get talk like that outside of the tristate area.

Rankings are publicity for the program, but I am less concerned about the rankings since they are so subjective and more concerned with how UConn plays going forward and how they overcome their PG issue.Why does this AP Poll show us at #24?
