AP Poll 11/29/21

Louisville is not playing like a Top Ten team right now.

I'll get back to you after Wednesday's home game against #12 Michigan.

Using these ranks for seeding:

CT: 2 UConn / 6 Indi / 11 Tenn / 14 IaSt
NC: 1 SoCar / 8 Mary / 10 Loui / 15 Tex
KS: 2 NC_St / 7 Ariz / _9 Iowa / 16 Ky

WA: 4 Stanf / 5 Bayl / 12 Mich / 13 USF

I did my own power rankings after Voepel did hers and here is how I see things in case anyone wants to come at me.

1. South Carolina
2. NC State
3. Uconn
4. Tennessee
5. Texas A&M
6. Texas
7. Stanford
8. Indiana
9. South Florida
10. Maryland
11. Arizona
12. Baylor
13. Georgia
14. Michigan
15. BYU
16. Iowa State
Louisville, Iowa, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Florida Gulf Coast

OK I was baffled if not just a bit soured by the OP adding Women to each line in the copy of the AP poll. What did you think - we expected Men's teams on the Women's AP poll? It made me think that for some reason it was necessary to stipulate that these were women not athletes or something.

My preseason / Nov. 23 poll rankings:

BYU: 24/23 (will probably move them higher next week, provided they take care of Utah)
ND: 21/20 (also trending up)
Georgia: 16/14
Duke: 25/first team out
UNC: first team out/24

I have a problem with Baylor, Iowa, and Louisville getting so much love without actually doing anything to deserve being that high. It's not a preseason poll any more. Also why Texas all the way down at 15? That is absurd.

Again, this is all meaningless at this point. Parity is such that “upsets” won’t be.

The funniest is today's Coaches' Poll, which has Louisville at #5 and undefeated Arizona, which beat Louisville, at #11. Louisville's best win was an 8-point win at lowly 2-3 Washington. I get that Zona's squeaker vs. Vandy might give voters some pause, but there's absolutely no basis for ranking Louisville this high, especially when other schools who are undefeated, like Tennessee (#10) and Michigan (#9), actually have some good wins. A similar critique could apply to Baylor at #7. Oh, and UCLA is still ranked despite losing to multiple mediocre mid-majors.

Feels like the Coaches in this year's Poll are on auto-pilot based on the success of those teams in past seasons and not even trying to assess the product on the court this year.

That's always the case with Coaches poll.
It's a terrible poll. In all sports.

Have you actually watched Tennessee ? They are certainly not a #4 seed/ranked team by any means.

Has anyone noticed that every team in the top 25 but Iowa have won more games than UConn has played? Iowa has won the same amount. I think if we wait until UConn has played a few more games we can have a better sense of how good or bad they will be.
