Is it out of the realm of possibility that if FSU and Clemson do indeed leave that the ACC might just stay at 12? Is 12 now too small to be one of the 'cool' conferences, B1G not withstanding?
Anyone still prefer UConn and Rutgers to the ACC and not the B1G?![]()
I'd prefer that UConn join the NFC East they get great TV money... it's about as likely as the Big 10, so why not go all in.
I was once in awe of Conspirancy Kitty, but no more. My brother has a friend who knows a guy whose cousin outed CK. CK and Carl Spackler are one and the same. The proof --- No one has ever seen them together at the same time.![]()
Conspiracy Kitty finds your lack of belief ...disturbing.
Didn't Boise State win as many BCS bowls as the entire ACC????Who ever prefered the ACC to the B1G? I just prefer it to the NBE catastrophe.
I think they stay in the ACC. FSU can't figure out where the $ will come from to exit.I think the ax fell today on the ACC's chances of keeping FSU and Clemson. I also think the Big 12 will go to 14, and Pitt and Vtech will be the next 2, with an outside shot at Louisville.
I think they stay in the ACC. FSU can't figure out where the $ will come from to exit.
Didn't the Big 12 pay a portion of WV's exit fee and loan some additional money to them? If FSU really wants out and the Big 12 really wants them in it will happen.I think they stay in the ACC. FSU can't figure out where the $ will come from to exit.
FSU really can't afford to stay.
The bigger potential obstacle to realignment that has developed over the weekend is Notre Dame. Notre Dame is apparently flirting with the Big 12. This could bring all realignment to a screeching halt, which is exactly what Notre Dame wants. I could also see FSU's pro-ACC faction using the fact that FSU is being backburnered for ND as ammo to stay in the ACC.
Notre Dame has no intention of joining a league, and every fan in college football, or anyone that has ever read a ND AD's comments, knows that, but it appears that the Big 12 office may not be aware. Notre Dame is going to try to waste everyone's time for 6 months until this has died down. It is up to the Big 12 whether ND is going to be successful.
Didn't Boise State win as many BCS bowls as the entire ACC????
That ND would stall the process just for the point of stalling it makes no sense. It doesn't make them anything but enemies, and in a world where they actually are staying independent and need help from the big boys in terms of scheduling and championship access, that strategy would be insane and there is no reason to think the Irish will be insane.
Yes, ND wants to stay independent, but it isn't hard to see the day coming that they just can't. And, while they can always join a conference, the question they are facing today is do we wait until everything else has played out and we join a conference but that's the last move in the game, versus do we talk to the Big Ten and ACC and negotiation coming in with the other teams we want to come in with us and shape the conference in which we land. The smart move is the latter, if they think they can get there without being thrown out by their alum.
I really can't take the Notre Dame to the Big 12 talk seriously. Am I honestly supposed to believe the Domers would pass on the Big 10 and voluntarily join with schools like West Virginia and Iowa State? And for what reason? Spite. The Big 10 offers them all they want and are a geographic fit. Unless Notre Dame wants their own network, although how much that is really worth is questionable.
I agree that the smart move is to negotiate on their own terms, and the ACC would make the most sense culturally (littered with private schools, east cost base, strong academics, even contains traditional rivals) but my money would still be on the Big 10.
Can you imagine the buyouts/renegotiating that ND would have to do if/when they join a conference for their future scheduled games? That's a LOT of contracts they'd be breaking.
I am sure there is talking going on with both the ACC and the Big Ten. Those are the only two options, and if they're talking to the XII it's either without football or to increase their leverage with the ACC and/or Ten.
Waylon -- you really think that your certainty that the playoffs will quickly grow to 8 or 16 is something the Irish are willing to stake their program on? With all due respect, one would be nuts to make a multi-million dollar decision just because you (or I for that matter) are sure about something that no one in college athletics is actively pursuing at the moment.
