This has been an eye-opening thread for me. I guess I thought that Lyme was pretty much figured out and didn't realize what a mess the situation is.
You can see in there some of the mess in understanding. If doctors were literate about the test, and realized that you can have positive diagnoses without falling afoul of the CDC, then more people could be treated right away properly. And you'd have fewer of the late conditions we've been talking about. Even those who deny chronic cases allow that late treatment might cause organ damage or cause an autoimmune problem, but oddly these are the same people who think that only the CDC criteria can determine you're positive. What a mess.
