With 2 Huskies projected in the lottery I'm thinking about going (depending on work schedule). For those who don't know, Ticketmaster has tickets as low as $15/20ish open to the public.

I was just curious if anyone who's familiar with the area or attended last year's draft had advice. I have never been to the Rock before, but from what I hear it is a solid venue in an iffy neighborhood. My main concern would be Newark traffic. Looks like they have some decent public transit (commuter rail and light rail). If anyone has used these before to get to the Prudential..whether it be Seton Hall games, Devils, Nets, whatever...your feedback would be appreciated.

im definitely down, i didnt know they sold tickets...can you take the train there?

I'm assuming you'll be shooting down to Newark from CT?

You're best bet is going to be driving down if you're coming from CT, but as you mentioned, traffic is going to be an absolute bear coming down from I-95 in CT, GWB, then into Newark on 280 to 21 on a weekday.

I grew up about 25 minutes from The Rock and let's face it Newark overall is a pretty dangerous place but I've been to Devils, Nets and UConn games at The Rock and the area around the arena and it's parking lots are safe because they are pretty well patrolled on game nights. It's an awesome arena though overall and I've never had any incidents there whether I drove or took mass transit.

That being said, I believe there have a couple of incidents around the arena, so if you're going to the draft, just don't venture off the beaten path.

Take the train. Newark Union Station is ~4 blocks away, and not much but parking lots in between. Straight shot on Amtrack from NH or Stamford. You could take Metro North to GCS, but then you'll need to schlep 3 blocks W, and 10 blocks south to PATH at 34th and 6th Ave. PATH end-of-line at Newark Union Station.

Newark has the BIGGEST cops I've ever seen. Look like pro defensive linemen. The area has been safe for me, and I've used car, NJ Transit, and PATH to get there. Great bars and food at the top of the first tier of stands. Newark PAC is right there as well.

The train from Stamford looks pretty pricey.. do you know if any other trains run there that aren't out of the immediate Newark area? Avoiding the rush hour city traffic would probably be my main concern.

All of Newark is iffy so be careful. The train comes into Penn Station and it is a fairly short walk to the Rock which is a good venue. Seton Hall never fills it (like they never filled Continental Arena0 but the upper levels get shrouded so it looks full. The Potuguese/Spanish restaurants in the Ironbound section (which is safe surprisingly) are very good. Great way to clear the seating area around you by having a heavy garlic Shrimp in Green Sauce before heading over to the Draft.

Like I said, PATH from 34th St, and NJ Transit from Penn St NYC is it.
