The university did a lot for Calhoun. Upon reflection it is safe to say Calhoun reciprocated by doing more than any other coach outside of John Wooden to bring a team to national prominence. Knight, K and Smith all had better foundations upon their arrival.
Although the UConn games last year had meaning to the players and Ollie in particular... it could be argued they were still playing with funny money b/c the games had no tournament implications. I think KO will grow to be a great X and O's coach to go along with his recruiting ability (Now that the cuffs are off... I think he lost ground with some key players like Chukwu b/c of restrictions). Quite frankly this is a year I think Calhoun will be missed on the sidelines. His tournament coaching experience is invaluable.
In a perfect world it would have been interesting to see what Calhoun would have done with this team. I didn't think he would hang it up when he did. I was completely wrong on that 1.
