Just wondering when he will make a decision on returning. Would love to get a new asst coach is asap (Donyell) to start hitting the recruiting trail hard.

Maybe George will want to keep coaching. Perhaps he loves the fast life.

Why does everyone say Donyell would be such a great coach? I'm not saying he wouldn't, just wondering what makes him such a solid candidate?

Blaney doesn't recruit. If someone comes in to replace Blaney and they want him to recruit who do they take off recruiting, Miller or Hobbs?

Take three seconds and see if you really need an answer to that question.

They need to hire a recruiter in a big bad way.

D. Marsh would be perfect

I don't get this Donyell stuff. I'm not saying he wouldn't be a good coach, but what's the appeal beyond having a former UConn player who played in the NBA? Why not go after a recruiter like the kid at ISU that Ollie's mentioned or the presumably now unemployed dude from the Atlanta Celtics that Howland brought in to recruit?

I have heard he does not have all that much of a choice in the matter- he would like to stay but I think he is out the door. Not knocking him- just relating what I have heard.

I heard his next stop is the bridge table at White Oaks in Manchester.

The question becomes how do you find a guy who wants to recruit players to a school when he can't even sell the conference situation.

Exactly. This stuff about having an all-Uconn coaching staff is all well and good. I'd rather have a guy who's firmly established in recruiting circles.

He'll be selling the school that has won three NC in the last 15 years. Oh, and throw in a Final Four. Would you rather be Wake Forest?

A top notch recruiter is our biggest need. This UCONN family of coaches sounds nice, but IMO we need someone other than a former Husky player and a coach who has recruited nation-wide and has the contacts needed to recruit the 5 and 4 star players. Plus a different (non UCONN) voice would be provide another perspective to recruiting that would be helpful. Staying within the family is great, but not for ALL our staff. Add some diversity and different a perspective as we move forward.

yah what about the guy from ISU? Wojo dropped an article saying hoiberg is a hot commodity among nba gms. If he leaves, I'm assuming his entire staff becomes free agents. Abdelmassih?

McCray hasn't been let go and there were reports that UCLA was looking to keep him on the staff due to the obvious connections. I would like to get someone connected in recruiting but hiring someone directly from an AAU program just seems dirty as to me. You had someone like Tony Parker who only went to UCLA because of McCray and he was miserable last year. Then in Forde's story on the Howland firing McCray was pollying around with shady characters while recruiting those Canadian kids in Kentucky, the Delonte Hill stuff with Michael Beasley later suing him, etc, going down that route is something I would rather not see.

It was a rhetorical question just pointing out the obvious that one of the existing 2 would be replaced since you can't have 4 recruiting coaches on the road. But if you want me to answer it I'd say take Miller off the trail. How did I do?

It will be very interesting to see what KO does. Beyond Blaney, he's got another JC, and UConn legacy, on his bench in Freeman, who presumably would slide down the bench if JC were still coaching, leaving Moore the DO job. I'm sure KO also has lots of contacts with dynamic guys in the game who'd fit the bill. Donyell is a BIG UConn supporter on Twitter.

The next coaching staff opening needs to be filled with someone that has major AAU connections. I don't know who that is but that's the one thing this staff/KO doesn't have right now. When you play 15 seasons in the NBA it doesn't give you time to make inroads in the AAU circuit.

We've got plenty of the UConn feel on the staff already with K-Free, Ollie, Hobbs, etc so hiring Donyell would just be redundant.

Give me a good AAU guy for that slot all day.
