Not good news for us

Annnndddd there’s the kick in the nuts that we all should have known was coming when this news was first said. As soon as there was a BUT in the hiring article, you all had to know it would go wrong for us….

Let's hope Candle doesn't want to be somebody's second choice. Either way, it'll tell us alot about Candle.

As a career decision, it's always better to go to a place where you are BOTH wanted and needed.

Hearing that LSU student newspaper saying Baker flipped again and is going to be the Tulane HC...

Per Gemini AI:
Here's the background on why you likely thought he was staying at LSU:

  • Initial Reports: Early reports and rumors suggested that new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin was making a strong push to retain Baker and that Baker might ultimately stay in Baton Rouge despite the interest from Tulane.

  • High-Profile Job: Baker was the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the country at LSU, and the Tigers were willing to match competitive salaries to keep him.

However, the final decision was a move to become a head coach at his alma mater.

  • Head Coaching Opportunity: The chance to become a head coach is a major career promotion.
  • Alumnus Factor: Baker played linebacker at Tulane from 2000-2004, making it a homecoming for him and his family.

  • Final Outcome: Despite LSU's efforts to keep him, Baker ultimately accepted the job to become the head coach of the Tulane Green Wave.
It was a tough decision with a lot of conflicting reporting up until the final announcement!
link?

Jason Tyler Candle (born November 12, 1979) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach at the University of Connecticut, a position he has held since December 2025. Candle was the head coach at Toledo prior, had been an assistant at Toledo from 2009 to 2025, and was previously a coach at Mount Union from 2003 to 2008. He played as a wide receiver at Mount Union and Geneva.

What if he added a nice incentive like "if we get into a p4 while you're here, 5 million bonus"

Because that'd very likely mean UConn and their fball hire are kicking butt in that case, money well spent.

.-.
The Sun Belt was earning less in 2016 and 2017 when he lost to Appalachian State. He's also lost 12 games as a favorite in the last 5 years.

Who's the one that does not watch football again?
You mean under dogs win games some times? Who woulda thunk it.

* if * this is real, great hire for UConn, the type of hire that tells you we're very serious about football

yeah, I see a lot of jumping to conclusions... clearly they interviewed him but until UConn releases a press release or posts the HC position internally or whatnot I'm not assuming anything

Well the thing we have to watch out for is presser, If Candle is indeed our next coach I would expect the announcement at a presser probably Monday or Tuesday, We'll have to wait and see. Patman you beat to it by 30 seconds. Haha.

Those site changes were rolled back. We need to wait for an official announcement from AD David Benedict. Until then, enjoy the weekend or hit refresh every 5 minutes.

Does head coach get posted elsewhere? 3 assistant jobs added yesterday but not head!
I'm glad the state of CT didn't do that for the HC gig. I know we do things different here, but, geesh, let's get out if our own way...follow NCAA Football protocol with HC hires... just make it known up front instead.

This has such a 2025 feel. Where the press is more concerned with being first than correct and people on social media just make up news. I was concerned last night when only one local news outlet was reporting it.

I know the assistant coach jobs have been posted in the past, but I don't remember a job posting for Hurley or Mora.

Yeah but this would set a record never to be broken
“Poached before he Coached”
If he did actually agree to coach here. I have a feeling that someone in the media got word UConn was talking to him and jumped the gun to be first. They can get 4 out of 5 " scoops" correct, but they will brag about the one they get right. "We were the first to report'. The media is shameless.

Whether Candle is the guy or not, we seem to be positioned better than I would have imagined in the carousel pecking order. Tulane is considered one of the better G5 jobs, and it appears we are on a similar plane
