Any recruits left??

I agree... which is why we gotta get this hire right...
Yeah. Not interested in high school class tbh. UConn needs turn key players. UConn doesn't have the luxury of development. It's dumb to get too many high school players. Develop them for 1 or 2 years. They play one year then portal with 2-3 years left.

Mind as well just go to portal and grab a 2 year guy.

The value of the HS recruit is very low. You have to do it to fill out roster and build, but ya gotta get players who can play right away .

You can’t live off the portal. There’s no way to build chemistry and you take a 50-50 shot the guy you paid will play hard or fit in. We hit it out of the park in 24, far less so in 25.

IMHO, You need to build through recruiting (draft) and supplement with portal (free agency). You can’t churn half your team every year and think you’ll get progressively better.

Remember, the portal is not just one year players. UConn has grabbed many players through the portal with more than one year of eligibility left. Fagnano was a 3 year player. Evers has been here 2 years and has one year of eligibility left. Porter has been here 2 years and has 2 years of eligibility left. Vereen has been here 1 year and has 2 years left. Freeman was here 2 years as was Bell.

The downside (?) of the Mora era is that he dramatically downsized the HS recruiting classes. That said, some of the portal guys came to UConn with 2 or more years of eligibility left which somewhat offsets the scaled back HS recruiting. For this recruiting year, I would anticipate a large portal class and a very small HS class.
Mora actually said he went heavy on the portal in his first 2 years of necessity. He was planning to gradually back off portal guys as high school guys we could get improved. Who knows for sure. My own thinking is you bring in linemen and backs out of high school and quarterbacks and recievers through the portal. On the defensive side linebackers through the portal. Develop linemen. Mix and match on dbacks.

I checked his classes and he really didn't bring in HS players:

Year 1: 18
Year 2: 13
Year 3: 13
Year 4: 13

He did bring in portal kids with multiple years of eligibility.

.-.
It's a 2 way street. People won't complain when the new coach brings in some of the players he coached. Nobody complained when Joe Fagnano followed Norm Charleton from Maine.

I know some guys hit the portal but stay with the team. Do some recruits decommit due to uncertainty and end up signing anyway? I'm guessing no because someone else probably talked them into decommitting. I'm not sure the recruits are a big deal. The portal is where the team is going to be built. Older, stronger and more experienced players. I would think with an active coaching carousel comes an active portal.
Agree, but it is painful waiting to hear who will replace Mora. I get it's a process and I'd rather have Benedict thoroughly methodically looking at all the possibilities, but every time I see a flip to CSU I feel like we need to slap a tourniquet on this thing to stop the hemorrhaging.

It is very painful. I haven't followed this very closely in the past but I'm looking at teams who have the most recruits, in the 25-35 range. It's one thing if you are a P4 program getting 4 and 5 star recruits out of high school. But most of us are getting less than 3 star recruits. I don't think it's a big deal to lose many high school recruits. CSU has 23 commits but is only ranked 66 because no 4 stars. It all hinges on who the next coach is and how well we hammer the portal. Finding the next Fagnanos, Bells and Parhams would help.
