I've recently fallen in love with a book: Children of the Neon Bamboo. Can't recommend enough!
With a strong focus on the aesthetics of the era and the psychological ramifications for the narrator and his unorthodox family. Children of the Neon Bamboo is about meeting Arthur Regulski for a night of drinks, cigarettes, and good stories out back by the pool in the yard of a weird creative studio where he sews a grand, singular tapestry of aesthetics, history, and characters-- a wild, meandering, chill, and exhilarating story that bobs and weaves across the human experience, always with a sense of humor, never taking itself or the world too seriously.
