They don't give you the cap so you can't throw it effectively.

Veteran move - bring a cap of your own.

As a side note, I've been to 3 games where I could tailgate virtually as long as I wanted. In all 3 cases, I was into the game early because I was literally bored of tailgating after 8 hours or so.
