at bargain price who knew both sides of ball ever succeed in career as big boy clg coach?

did i read recently that Mr. John Toner left h.s. ball to coach at storz back in the day

Chip, we've missed you.

You did not read that, in fact. John Toner came to UConn after a period as a college assistant at Columbia under Buff Donelli. He also served on Donelli's staff for 3 seasons at Boston University before coaching New Britain High School. During his tenure on Donelli's staff at BU they were ranked for the only time in school history and during his time at Columbia, the Lions won their only Ivy League title. This at a time when winning the Ivy was significant in the national picture.

Vince Lombardi comes to mind.

Regardless, no one recently. Div. 1 college is closer to the NFL than it is high school. Back then it wasn't. Working your way up the ranks (H.S. head coach to College coach to pro coach) is not the norm. If you want to be a head coach in college, you're better off start out as a quality control assistant.

How did you know this, but not know about Calhoun's year coaching Old Lyme before going back to Boston when you were on one of your anti-Warde rants?
