#Mets took Anthony Kay out of HS. Heard they are big on him. Lefthander with a changeup.

Mazilli, sienna and now Kay. Mets minor leagues teams are gonna have a sprinkle of storrs throughout their system

Great For Kay and Great for UCONN.

Come and play for the Huskies, you can go high in the draft.

Very happy for Kay. I anticipate him doing extremely well as a professional, and I'm sure he will give us much to be proud of.

In a funny twist, the Mets picked the Florida 1B (Peter Alonso) who took him deep in the 5th inning of our game against them with their next selection. Water under the bridge now?

Kay and UConn just got several minutes of great PR in Mets pre-game. Love this.

The deadline for drafted players with collegiate eligibility remaining to sign a pro contract is Friday, July 15. Anthony Kay has not yet signed with the Mets. However, last weekend Chris Jones indicated during a Connecticut Tiger game broadcast that all signs point to Kay signing a pro contract. We'll see soon if and when that happens.

1st-rder Anthony Kay signs w/@Mets, $1.1 mil. Pick 31 = $1,972,100, physical raised elbow concerns. Connecticut LHP, very polished@MLBDraft

Then keithlaw @keithlaw starts in on his timeline about "overuse". You can go there to read it...

Last year Max McDowell signed just a few hours before the signing deadline. As time ticked along, I was guessing that would be the case with Anthony Kay as well. At least now I won't feel the need to repeatedly check twitter feeds this Friday for his signing status.

Next question is what happens with Anthony Kay for the rest of this year. It is not uncommon for teams to shut down newly drafted pitchers who threw a lot of innings during the college season and let them start fresh the next season. With the Mets having "elbow concerns" with Kay, that could very well be their course of action.

One thing I've seen the Connecticut Tigers do repeatedly over the last several years is that newly drafted pitchers will get regular starts, but only pitch 2 or 3 innings depending on pitch count. The Tigers certainly don't overwork their newly drafted pitchers.
