Another UConn commit earns all-state honors
Kyle Schafenacker, a Connecticut commit who was the starting left tackle on a St. Thomas Aquinas team which won Florida's 7A title, was named to the FHSAA 7A first-team All-State team.
Schafenacker, who also carries a 4.0 grade-point average, helped the Saints set a Florida championship record with 604 yards of total offense in a 41-25 win over Tallahassee Lincoln in the 7A championship game. In the semifinals St. Thomas Aquinas upset Bradenton's Manatee High, who entered the game as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, 35-18.
Also, UConn commit Matt Walsh us one of three finalists for the Walter Camp high school player of the year.
Walsh played linebacker and was a short-yardage back as a senior for the Class L champion Hand of Madison team.
Xavier quarterback and Boston College commit Tim Boyle and Ansonia running back Arkeel Newsome are the other finalists. The winner will be announced on Jan. 12.
