I am surprised that Uconn WBB streak of being ranked is only 550 weeks. I would have thought it is MUCH MUCH longer.

PV: maybe they only count the weeks during the active basketball season? If so...that would be
roughly 24 weeks a year....which would translate to around 23 years straight of being ranked.
That would take us back to the late 1990's.

wager that we have been ranked since early in the 1993-1994 season. Entering that season we were
coming off those 2 consecutive losses...one in the BE tourney and then a first round loss in the NCAAs
to Louisville...maybe starting the next season unranked. When Carla and Kara came as frosh in the 1993-1994 season we immediately began to win a lot...and our
ranking jumped...wound up losing in the final 8 to North Carolina...eventually champ.

From that year on...we were established as very good team [at least 'very good'] before the season started and went deep into the
tournament every year. So...I think our rankings would go back around 28 years.

Yes, in 9293, UConn was ranked early in the season — started at 21 dropped 23 then back to 21 and dropped out in early January, but was ranked 19th in the preseason of the following year. I haven't stepped through to confirm that they never fell out of the rankings, but these tables can be used to count the weeks of ranking. I'm guessing that the preseason doesn't count.

The AP poll had 19 weeks last season (week 1 is the 'preseason poll') and does not have a 'final poll' after the conclusion of the NCAAs. I believe this is the standard poll used for WCBB historic records. The coaches' poll had 20 rankings last season that includes the 'final' poll at the end of the NCAAs.

The AP for the last 2 decades has fluctuated between 18 and 20 weeks and in 1993-4 was 15 weeks (this was Mel Greenberg's poll of coaches that he started in 1976-7 before the AP took it over in the 1994-5 season and switched to writers.) Uconn was ranked for the whole 1993-4 season. The year AP took over the poll was 18 weeks. Uconn was ranked in the 1992-3 season for the first 6 weeks in the 20s and unranked for the remaining 10 weeks of the poll. (The 2019-20 season was screwy and had 20 AP polls and 19 Coaches polls.)

So the first poll in 1993-4 season is the start of the streak. Uconn was ranked at #18 and ended that season at #3. They were ranked #1 for the first time on Jan 17th 1995.

That streak alone is so damn impressive. To not lose back to back in 1 season is awesome, not to lose back to back since 1993? I wasn't even alive then. Wow.

1067 games without back-to-back losses has to be the most bizarre record in all of sports. Other records are unbeatable, but for bizarre, this takes the cake.

I know the important ones, 111 wins in a row, 11 NC's, 6 undefeated seasons,and so many more that I don't know, and the 1066 games without 2 losses in a row. These are records that will never be broken unless Geno adds more NC's to what he's already won. There are many more that I don't know of and some of THEM won't ever be broken. Another I just remembered is 131 wins in the NCAA. The premier posters will have a better knowledge of all the records. Geno is a once in a lifetime coach, the likes of which we will not see for another lifetime. GO GENO!!! GO HUSKIES!!!

I can't remember which team it was but I believe after our 1993 back to back loss, the second best was 2019.

They showed that graphic during the Princeton game and SoCar was in 2019. But the graphic only had teams in the top 10 (or 25) of the current rankings.

Chris Dailey goes to 14-0 in Geno Auriemma's absence; @UconnWBB now at 1,069 games without back-to-back losses dating back to March 1993; #Huskies 75-0 against Florida-based schools (including 10-0 vs. FSU) since a loss to Miami in February 1993.

It will be a shame and heartbreaking for Uconn when Geno finally retires because Chris Daley will retire with him. IN 3OR 4 MORE YEARS. Then Uconn will have to look for his replacement. Any suggestions?? GO HUSKIES!!!

I'm not sure about my memory on this, but I think Tennessee had the longest ranked streak for a long time and both programs were just adding to their streaks, but then Tennessee fell out recently, not just this year and Uconn moved up to the top spot. Pat Summit had a little bit of a head start on Geno being ranked.
