Another parking rant

Those times don’t make sense to me for a Noon kick. Or is it me?
They just cut & pasted the info from last week at the bottom. should be Lots open at 7 to pass holders, 8 for general, at 9 park whereever you want ends

Jim, the runways are gone. There is MUCH less parking than, say, ten years ago. Those runways were wide and long. And they parked on the grass too south of the stadium.
I know. There were few people going to games at the Rent in recent years, the parking capacity didn't matter. Now that parking is a problem, they need to figure out a plan for the future.

2.) Speaking of blue lot, according to the map, lots 10a and 10b are also blue lot. When I have arrived, that lot is often close to empty/just getting filled. Why in the world am I shuffled to a lot in timbuktu with my blue lot pass if that lot is wide open?
That was my gripe for last week. There was nobody in that lot when I pulled in. Like 3 cars, which for all I know could have been the cops' cars. I came in the entrance across from the airport club and the road was coned off, so you couldn't make that right and turn into that lot. Instead, drove by the entrance for blue and got pushed off to the bus lot.

When the Rent first opened and there were big crowds, parking seemed OK. The last 10 years, there was plenty of parking and you really didn't need many parking lot attendants or a parking plan. Now, UConn football is back and crowds are coming. Unfortunately, it sounds like the parking people are not prepared for crowds. The problem is something to be worked on in the offseason. The parking spots have to be big enough to accommodate tailgates as that is one of the biggest benefits of the Rent.
I miss the runway

Pretty sure that lots R1-R8 don't exist anymore/are a warehouse. So much for a recent map from the admin.
correct. I was going to post the correction. They are squeezing the tailgating out. Perhaps one of those warehouses will someday fold operations and UConn will have the world's largest indoor tailgating lot/pavilion, great for those wintry November games.

LAZ is a hot mess. I don't really care if there are other college that have a worse situation. I just know that ours should be better. Most of their workers aren't even trying to help you park!

The parking situation improving would go a pretty long way to making the entire game day experience better...
Problem is LAZ has way too much control over parking everywhere and there is no expectation of any standard of quality. Just another gimme.

LAZ is very politically connected company. Controls significant amount of the parking in downtown Hartford. Been that way for ages.

What happened is they don't let you tailgate in the rows anymore. I read here that's due to a medical emergency at an earlier pregame. Rescue was hampered by all the stuff in the road. So they started giving each car double the space, to park and tailgate. Last game when we got to the Blue Lot about two hours before game time, they had folks in carts with walkie-talkies, telling those directing traffic where open spaces were. Imperfect, but it's not like they didn't try. The rules they were playing by changed mid-season.

When we pulled into Blue lot 8 around 11 am Saturday (via the East gate), they asked for the tear off bottom of our parking pass (I guess there's still a problem with color copies, which amounts to theft of services). Then they sent us down a row that had plenty of room to park, but entitled fans spread put in spaces enjoying their tailgates in spots meant for cars. Luckily when I told them to move/GTFU, they did. But if it was a Duke sized crowd vs Air Force, there would have been massive issues.

It's rarely the fault of the attendants... it's the idiotic and probably contradicting direction from the bosses. That breeds confusion and apathy with the workers.

Perfect moment for someone to link the oppressed workers scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The AFA game was marginally better than the Duke Game. Starting @ 10 A.M. LAZ started a "Pick your # & wait for it to be called" type setup. Cars pulling into Blue Lot were lined up @ 8 in a row. The attendants by the lead car were relayed space availability by someone in the field which was then passed on to the driver. It was a time consuming tactic, but at least more cars were parked in Blue Lot than last week.
An interesting tactic by some tailgaters: Parking 4 abreast (which I have no problems with) & setting up their tailgate behind the 4 vehicles. Two other members of said tailgate parked in the row behind on the other side of the gravel path with luxury vehicles. When my group parked next to those vehicles, they made a point that they didn't want us setting up our grills with the excuse that they didn't want aerolized grease blowing onto their paint jobs. Half an hour later,, late comers to their tailgate parked in the unoccupied spots.
Judging by the new tailgating policies instituted, I wouldn't be surprised if, in 5 years or so. multiple parking garages are built around the RENT & tailgating is eliminated so that management can not so subtlely force patrons to buy from concession stands...

It seems we’re dealing with two problems, not directly related. One is the lack of spots due to doubling up the space given to each vehicle, and the second is total mismanagement. Again, all they have to do about the latter is go back to what they did during HCRE I. You drive in, they park you next to the vehicle that just pulled in. Every available space is taken. Problem solved. Spaces maximized and shouldn’t take too much time. If you want multiple cars parked together, you drive in together.

Unfortunately, as to the former, the only answer is to sell fewer passes to the blue lot as even my math is good enough to know that if you’re give each car twice as much space you can only park half as many cars.
