  1. His father-in-law died in September.
  2. His mother diagnosed with cancer in November and subsequently had surgery and treatment in season.
  3. His wife had a miscarriage mid season

And KO has the dignity, grace, and fight, to compartmentalize his (very difficult) personal life and focus on the kids and the program all season long. Not only that, but he wins a NC. These are times when you really should revere a coach and a man. All the best to him and his family.

"It was difficult," Kevin said, "but at the end of the day, life is not built on feelings, it's built on principles. I made a commitment to UConn, and whatever I go through, I've got to continue to do my job. We ask our guys to do the same thing. They have a bad day, a family issue, they've got to come in and practice and play the right way. I try to live my life the same way.

"learned in November she had breast and lung"

But don't you know that he didn't come out with a Calapari-ish type quote where he said he'll never, ever in eleventy million billion years do anything but coach the UCONN men's basketball team so he's a jerk and doesn't have 10 toes in?

All the Meanwhile, Cal was close to signing for $80mil with Cleveland. If it had been another franchise he'd have been gone.

Having a deep faith in God means never having to go it alone. Kevin went through so much in a years time (or less) and came out stronger on the other side.

What can you say about the guy after reading that quote? Wow.

Kevin Ollie is the greatest testament to Jim Calhoun and everything the UConn Husky basketball program represents.

Calhoun still has an eye for talent. The student may surpass the teacher. It will be fun to see.
The Ollie's all seem remarkable. I love the Mom.

Lets see if he can get two championships before we pencil him in for four! It ain't THAT easy. Despite evidence to the contrary around these parts. Good to be us.

The student "may" surpass the teacher isn't diving too far into the Kool Aid. But I get your point. This championship came quickly and they are never easy.
