Next Saturday morning will be very special for our hobby. It’s the first show we’ll record “live in studio” with a guest from the CT media and a sound engineer, since Covid.

The show will preview UConn’s upcoming Mens basketball season.

“Pitch us a UConn Question” and take home a custom Topps - Willie Mays card.

Been a baseball fanatic my entire life, the first game I attended was in 1958 at the age of 3. I can remember sitting along the third base line cheering for my favorite player - Jackie Jenson. I consider Willie Mays the greatest player during my lifetime.

That doesn't add up. Willie was on the Mets in the '70s. The polo grounds had long since stopped being a baseball facility by then. He did play for the Giants there before they moved to California.

Willie played for the Mets at Shea Stadium. You must mean for the New York Giants
Doh, confused. Gil Hodges and Duke Snider, former Brooklyn Dodgers, not Willie.

I was thinking of Willie’s famous catch at the Polo Grounds while I was misremembering.

Did you ever go to Ebbets Field? Were you at The Polo Grounds when Willie made the catch?

This team has the ingredients to be very effective with a 2-2-1 full court press. Tall guards (Newton, Hawkins, Alleyne, Diarra). who are the finishers Athletic forwards (Jackson, Johnson, Karaban) who are the interceptors. And rim protectors (Sanogo, Clingan). Any chance of introducing it?

Saw the Giants play the Mets at Shea on a Sunday doubleheader. Willie threw a laser frozen rope to home from center, still memorable.

Several questions:
-Who has stood out at each position?
-Who has made major strides since the season ended?
-Who will be the biggest surprise this season?
-Will the roster makeup, with so many skilled and athletic players, potentially change DH's defense first philosophy?
-Will DH be able to manage such a large, loaded, roster?

Waiting patiently for some form of this. We now have the depth and the offense to make it work in transition. Just need to get this practiced up and tried out during the cupcake season before unleashing it in some fashion against the Big East. Shades of old (Uconn).

I remember Willie in the All Star games on tv during the early 1960's when the NL had better position players (Aaron, Banks, Mays, Clemente etc.) Always remember his hat coming off when he chased a fly ball. He was a showman too! Great all time player on both offense and defense and a great 2 strike hitter.

Another thing about the 2-2-1 full court press is that you can control tempo with it. If you go hard you speed up the game, if you go soft it slows the game down. JC's favorite defense.
