Big news in Georgia athletics: Longtime women's basketball head coach Andy Landers is retiring. UGA just announced.

HUGE opening with tons of in-state talent. If the new coach can close the borders, Georgia would scary good.

I hadn't seen it yet either, but I'm not surprised. He's just not competing with the Kentuckys, South Carolinas, and Tennessees of the world in his school's league, and it's been a long time since his team legitimately contended for the NC. His most recent best showing was when Georgia lost to the team that lost to the team that got shellacked in the national finals.

Not to say he doesn't deserve a royal sendoff, but if he is indeed retiring, it wouldn't be before his time.

That being said, he made Georgia a top 15 program for three consecutive decades, a feat few programs have matched or exceeded.

Does anyone know what brand hair dye Landers uses?
I would like to "short" the stock if its a public company. I figure not coaching or recruiting anymore he can let it go gray and save a fortune on whatever he was using.

If you're Walz or Mitchell do you consider/take the Georgia job? Georgia would have to pay 250K more to match their existing salaries. More resources at Georgia and if you're able to get the Georgia HS Talent, could easily become a dominant program? What Big Name coaches if your the Georgia AD do you consider?

For me, while not a Big Name Coach, I go after Niele Ivey of ND

I cant see Walz leaving Louisville..... and Im sure they would match anything that UGA would offer in terms of money

Why do you want Ivey for Duke?

I'd buy season tickets if that were to happen :D ;) :) :p

Yeah, I don't see Walz leaving Louisville. That would be a silly decision.

When you let Kelley Cain, Maya Moore, Diamond DeShields, Lexie Brown, Andraya Carter, Asia Durr, Te'a Cooper, and others leave the state, your job shouldn't be guaranteed.
That's a lot of talent there.

Brylcream will go out of business. Their only reliable customer now will be Matthew Mitchell.

Georgia has awful basketball facilities; the only thing worse is their fan support. Would you rather play in front of big crowds at USC or Tennessee or hear crickets chirping in Athens?

The fact is he could have dominated in the SEC. Then he had too go against Pat Summitt.

The same thing was true of Van Chancellor - his original stint at Ole Miss, not the later one at LSU. It reportedly was the reason he was receptive to the W.

And incidentally, at Van's WBBHOF induction (anyone could introduce you, on video) Andy was the person doing it. With a lot of jokes about not getting out of Knoxville happy. This was many years ago, when CVS went in (same year).

It would not surprise me if Coach P made play for this position, she has felt fully
under appreciated at Duke and being compared to Goestenkors is her only problem
in her mind. Chattanooga Tenn. is where her husbands family lives and was a
consideration in taking the Duke job. If she could produce a similar record at
Georgia she would move from coach to Queen P.
