Andy Katz list’s his top ten fanbases

How do you mean toxic? I think we have a tendency to denigrate other fanbases more than most. A need to feel superior, possibly born of the fact that CT is often viewed as an afterthought stuck between NYC and Boston (other than for Pizza and basketball). We talk about "fly over country" but many would call CT "drive over country".

Your post reminded me of my late Uncle, who was raised in the Bronx, but moved to CT in the 60’s after he married my Aunt. He was fond of saying Nutmeggers suffered “little man” complex, being located between NYC and Boston, narcissistic and whiny about the silliest of topics.

Maybe he's painting with a wide brush, but I was never in awe or anything facing players in NYC or Boston.

the toxicity, if it's being defined as the need to constantly denigrate other programs, is a direct result of our scorn for the power conferences said programs belong to, which in turn, is due to the fact that said conferences have passed us over, again and again, for membership. in other words, they started it.

@auror this is EXACTLY what I was thinking as soon as I saw it and then read your post...

And per usual, the denizens of this board have not disappointed. We truly are like a bunch of relatives at the yearly reunion where everyone comes, invariably some take pot shots at the crazy, unhinged ones who were let out of their basements and from under the sink to attend...

But have an outsider make commentary on our disfunction? Ohhhhhhhh, HELL NO!

Just what I needed on a slow Wednesday afternoon... Boneyarders gettin' after it when someone has called us collectively one of the "Most Toxic" fanbases.

Thank you all... so many of you are just down right hilarious, especially when being snarky or feeling offended.
 
All you have to do is visit the board. We are who we are. But you can be both toxic and passionate so there is that.
 
I remember when Ollie came to UConn (to play). I remembered feeling he was a good, not great college player that wore his emotions. When he went to the NBA he was also a good, not great NBA player.

So when he came to coach UConn, well, he was an okay, not great coach. Pretty clear that Hurley eats Ollie's lunch in the coaching department.
Was never the same after his marriage fell apart.

That’s because Philly, South Jersey and Maryland area sports fans are famously nasty. We have had fantastic crowds for tons of games but you won’t find our fans being borderline criminal in behavior like you do in that area. Honestly, it seems that whole area is full of metro Philly people that are as rude and nasty as it gets in terms of fandom. It makes for a rowdy environment but it’s also a little dangerous and it is never very family friendly.

I am not knocking Philly. I have two friends that fit the mold. They went to Maryland. They are great people, fun to be around and they are big sports fans, but I try not watch the Eagles, Terps or Sixers with them. It is uncomfortable. My wife thinks they are awful.

Not disagreeing. Just saying that the energy I experienced at that one Maryland game far surpassed any UConn game I've been to. To be fair I've only been to regular season games. But it wasn't even remotely close.
 
Loses a little cred not including UK in the toxic bunch. I’ve never seen a message board go more schiz ballistic after every loss. It’s actually good entertainment. They are as unhinged as it gets.
This man speaks no lies. That being said if toxicity comes with more titles then i embrace the label.
 
I think we all know how passionate and dedicated the majority of our fanbase is so it’s nice to see Katz recognize that in his tweet today.

I saw this cbkreport a couple of months ago and we weren’t listed in the Biggest Fan or Passionate Fan category but in the Toxic Fan category.

Let’s just say we are the best fanbase with crazy people that are spoiled and arrogant.

Uconn for sure is top 10 no doubt but kinda shocked they are ahead of Kansas and especially Duke. Again, nothing against our Huskies, but I know Duke is legendary. Might be interesting to see a mid major top 10, I hear New Mexico is solid.

Toxic? Kentucky is most toxic by a long shot. Uconn, we might be toxic on the message board or twitter BUT IT STOPS THERE. Kentucky they bring that nonsense to real life making death threats, showing up on coach cals lawn after a loss, trying to ruin a refs livelihood by review bombing his business after a loss and tormenting him so bad police got involved, verbally abusing a Kentucky player relentlessly (Saul Smith) and so on. Uconn ain't that toxic, no way. Not close.

I don't think so, but people will riff this for a while. Don't get me wrong, you have to be a little thick skinned to post here. People will definitely jump all over a mistake, but it's good natured, for the most part, like friends ribbing each other.

UConn twitter, on the other hand, is often mean spirited in a childlike name-calling way. I don't know that it's toxic, but it's dumb, like "you're stupid" "no, you're stupid" level dumb. Much of Twitter is that way, though.
 
I find the Boneyard to be refreshingly direct though. If that hits differently with others as having to be thick skinned so be it.
